Harley Quinn has been in some of the most notable romances in all of DC Comics. Her most famous relationship with the Joker was toxic and abusive. However, she later found happiness with the supervillain Poison Ivy. But, now Harley's got a new crush and it's a surprising hero: Booster Gold.

Harley's meta-adventures have seen her team up with Booster Gold in order to investigate the death of one of her friends, Alicia. In Harley Quinn #72 by Sam Humphries, Abel, Hi-Fi, and Dave Sharpe, Booster and Harley continue to bond, even briefly holding hands before she pushes them both off a tall building. The issue than flashes forward to Harley and Booster doing some investigating, which brings them even closer together.

Harley and Booster share a number of funny moments as he convinces her to let him tag along in her investigation. She calls him "a big slobbery golden retriever," and Booster calls the duo "Goldie Quinn," which Harley rejects. The two do some detective work at a fancy house party, where they make up a needlessly complicated backstory to explain their presence to guests, that includes Booster's dad not approving of their faux-engagement because "I'm too good for him," and his mom "can't keep her hands off" Harley. Booster jokingly suggests they have a family get-together to cut the sexual tension.

After discovering an Apokoliptan storage unit, they're tipped off to a construction site in North Hollywood. It's there Harley connects clues over the land developer Jonathan Wittleston and his potential involvement with super nazis, the Apokoliptan tech, and Alicia's murder. Booster suggests they call in the Justice League, but Harley wants to solve the case herself. When Booster tells Harley she's got a death wish, she blows up on him telling her she wants to murder Wittleson. Booster says if he can't stop her, she's on her own. "What happened ta th'big slobbery Booster golden retriever, you told me ya cared!" Booster responds, "that's why I'm not going help you try to kill yourself!"

Booster tells Harley he cares about her and the two nearly share a kiss, before Booster tells her "I can't do it," as he flies away. Once he's gone, Harley slowly realizes she might have a crush on him, saying "Aw no, what the frick! Do I have a crush on Booster Gold?! Ew!" While the romance never blossomed, the surprise pairing worked out really well. Harley developing a crush on one of DC's goofiest heroes is hilarious, but surprisingly touching. Harley Quinn and Booster Gold would have made an interesting couple.
