Adam Sandler's production company, Happy Madison, makes movies that fans either love or they hate. His comedy has varied over the years, but all of Sandler's movies that he has starred in, as well as the movies his company has produced, have that signature style of comedy that only he can master.

Many have been flops but his iconic comedy is still loved by many today. Netflix itself has even taken notice and given the company a chance with a huge multi-movie contract. This is just one of many facts that fans don't realize about the comedy movie production company Happy Madison Productions.

The Man Depicted In The Production Logo Is Sandler's Late Father

Right before every Happy Madison movie, the name of the company is shown underneath the image of an elderly man laughing. The image of the man and his laugh are Adam Sandler's father, Stan Sandler who died of lung cancer in 2003.

Sandler created this as a tribute to his father, in the hopes that he is somewhere out there, laughing at the movies.

Happy Madison Takes Its Name From The Films Happy Gilmore and Billy Madison

Sandler launched his movie production company in 1999 and named it in honor of his two most successful characters at the time, the slacker that has to go back to school in Billy Madison and the angry hockey player turned golf star in Happy Gilmore.

Both of these films, which are named after the main characters, were box office successes. Both roles put Sandler on the map and he made sure he never forgot this by naming his company after them.

Rob Schneider Is In Nearly Half Happy Madison Films

The very first movie produced by the company didn't even star Sandler. The film was the comedy gem, Duece Bigalow, Male Gigolo, which only features Adam Sandler's voice. Ron Schneider has become synonymous with the company, as well, with viewers of the company's films always on the lookout for his appearance.

Currently, Happy Madison has produced around 45 films and Rob Schneider has been in 19 of them, according to IMDb. After a small hiatus from acting, he recently appeared in The Wrong Missy as Sandler's friend. He is also set to appear in the upcoming Halloween movie, Hubie Halloween, starring Sandler.

Not All Films The Company Produces Star Adam Sandler

As mentioned above, the very first film produced by Happy Madison Productions didn't even star Sandler or even feature his face. And this was not the only film like this. Many of the films produced by Sandler's company starred his friends or other actors Sandler believed in. He has been quoted by fellow actors as loving to help out his friends, with Rob Schneider even telling Howard Stern in an interview: "He’s been nice enough to include me in his gigantic success story.”

The most notable movies produced by the company are The House BunnyGrandma's BoyZookeeper, and Joe Dirt. None of these films star Sandler, but some of them feature him in small cameo appearances, playing characters that he seems to have a lot of fun creating.

The Company Produces Television Shows, Too

By 2007, Adam Sandler had realized the potential of television and expanded his company to include TV shows. The first show the company produced was Rules of Engagement, starring Oliver Hudson and Sandler's friend David Spade, which ran for seven seasons. But the show that has garnered the most success for the company is The Goldbergs, a sitcom about a family living in the 80s.

The show even featured a Wedding Singer episode that used actual footage from the movie's scene where Sandler's character, Robbie, serenades Drew Barrymore's Josey on the plane at the end of the 80s style film. The show’s spinoff, Schooled, was getting some good buzz, but sadly it was canceled after its second season.

The Company Has Produced 3 Films That Have A Zero On Rotten Tomatoes

It's not an easy feat to score a zero on Rotten Tomatoes, but Sandler's production company has managed to do it with three separate movies. 2011's Bucky Larson, The Ridiculous 6which came out on Netflix in 2015, and most recently, Father Of The Year.

Sandler himself only stars in one of these films, but must still take the blame for these flops, as his company produced them. But even though these films all received the lowest possible score on Rotten Tomatoes, all three films still have fans who enjoyed them.

The Ridiculous Six Broke A Netflix Record

Funnily enough, The Ridiculous 6 still managed to break a Netflix record, despite its terrible score. The film received more views within in first 30 days on Netflix than any other film in the platform's history. The film had a lot of controversy surrounding it due to its depictions of Native Americans and woman, but Sandler's and the company claimed it was all in the name of satire.

People either agreed or hate-watched the film because it quickly rose to number one in every country it aired in, and to this day, remains one of the most-watched Netflix films.

Netflix Has A 4 Movie Deal With The Company Worth Up To $275 Million

This record might have something to do with Netflix constantly throwing money at the company. Recently, Netflix made a $275 million deal with Happy Madison to produce four films to be exclusively shown on the platform - the second deal the streaming giant has made with Sandler's company.

Sandler's movies seem to be greatly enjoyed on the platform that reaches 190 countries. According to Netflix's CCO Ted Sarandos, viewers have watched over 2 billion hours of Adam Sandlers content alone. So it's no surprise the company was willing to pay out so much for four more movies, knowing they will make way more than that.

Sandler Once Had A Subsidiary Called Scary Madison Productions Aimed At Horror Movies

Horror is definitely not something Adam Sandler is known for, but that didn't stop the comedian from trying his hand at the genre and creating a subsidiary company called Scary Madison. The company only ever released one movie, but the film had a small success and many claimed it felt like a movie made by people who are true fans of the genre.

The film was called "The Shortcut" and came out in 2009. It follows a group of friends who decide to uncover the truth about a shortcut in town that everyone avoids and it features a young Dave Franco.

The Companies Three Highest-grossing Films Are Grown-ups, Grown-ups 2 And Pixels

It's not surprising that Happy Madison's three films that did the best at the box office were the three films that included huge casts, full of everyone's favorite comedy stars, many of whom are good friends of Sandlers. All three films stayed true to Sandler's classic style of comedy and conjured up feelings of nostalgia for his earlier films.

The films also just felt like a bunch of funny guys hanging out and bringing the audience along for the ride. Sandler needs to work on recapturing this in his future films.
