Happy! has been given a full series order on Syfy. On September 1, 2012, Image comics released the first in a four issue series titled Happy! The comics were created by Grant Morrison and Darick Robertson and while the title might have been Happy! the story was anything but. The comics tell the tale of Nick Sax, who used to be a corrupt cop and is now a mafia hit-man. Upon finding himself in quite a precarious situation, Sax id helped by an imaginary blue horse named Happy, as he has one last adventure.

The pilot for the series was ordered last September, staring Christopher Meloni as Nick Sax and the voice of Bobby Moynihan as Happy. Also featured are Patrick Fischler as the sadistic Smoothie, Zabryna Guevara as single mother Amanda Hansen, and Ritchie Costeras Mr. Blue aka Leonardo Scaramucci.

Accompanying the announcement that Krypton had gotten a full season order from Syfy is the news that the network has also ordered Happy! to series. You can check out the first image of Meloni as Sax below, following the official plot summary for the TV show:

The series follows Nick Sax (Christopher Meloni, “Law & Order: SVU”) – an intoxicated, corrupt ex-cop turned hit man – who is adrift in a world of casual murder, soulless sex and betrayal. After a hit gone wrong, his inebriated life is forever changed by a tiny, relentlessly positive, imaginary blue winged horse named “Happy” (Bobby Moynihan, “Saturday Night Live”).

The image of Meloni as Sax indicates that the series will follow the books, at least to a point. Much of the story in the comics is set in a mob hospital, where Sax is trapped with torture-expert Smoothie. The series begins with Sax dealing with a failed hit and a bullet wound, with both cops and criminals after him. On top of that, there is a child killer dressed as Santa - the action taking place just a few days before Christmas - and Sax needs all the help he can get. That's when Happy appears and the pair struggle to work together to (literally) save Christmas.

Happy! getting a series order means that Moynihan has two voice-over roles on the horizon, since he is also the voice of Louie in the new DuckTales cartoon TV show on Disney XD. Grant Morrison wrote the pilot episode for Happy!, along with Brian Taylor - who is pulling triple duty as director and co-executive producer alongside Meloni, Neal Moritz, Pavun Shetty and Toby Jaffe of Original Film. Showrunner Patrick Macmanus is also executive producing.

With only four books in the comic series, there is not much material for a Happy! TV show, indicating that the TV series' story will continue on well after the events in the original comics. Fans of Happy! will probably be getting some original content then, unless Syfy is planning on this being a one-season series.
