While Hannibal Lecter and Will Graham share a deep bond and mutual attraction, there's no reason to think Hannibal's true nature wouldn't win out. When it was announced that Bryan Fuller was going to create a TV series centered on Hannibal, fans of the franchise weren't quite sure what to expect. Would it be a remake of what came before? A prequel setting up those events? Or some new creative beast? The answer, surprisingly, was a little bit of all three.

Hannibal kinda, sorta fits into the established movie and book timelines, provided one makes a few allowances. However, Hannibal wasn't content to simply offer up characters like Dr. Lecter, Will, and Jack Crawford as fans already knew them. Instead, Fuller used the longer format to innovate and evolve them, creating more complex, layered versions of Thomas Harris' characters than had ever before been seen onscreen. Whether fans liked the changes made is a matter of opinion, but Hannibal certainly boasts a rabid fanbase even now, five years after its sudden cancellation.

People still clamor for the release of season 4, and while Fuller has teased the possibility, things appear no closer to fruition. If season 4 does eventually happen though, it's unlikely that "Hannigram's" honeymoon period would last too long, leading to a bloody dissolution of their union.

Why Hannibal Will Eventually Turn On Will Graham In Season 4

Hannibal and Will Graham

Following their shared murder of Francis Dolarhyde, Hannibal and Will appear to have reached the apex of their relationship. Hannibal makes it known that killing together was what he had always wanted for them, but tellingly, Will then pulls Hannibal off a cliff with him. While a follow-up scene with Bedelia du Maurier clearly points to their survival for a potential season 4, there's just no real way the two characters will be able to coexist forever. Will certainly has issues, and he's killed several people, but usually bad guys, and often in self-defense. Conversely, Hannibal is an unrepentant psychopath and sociopath, and while he might care for Will, it's been seen on more than one occasion that Hannibal's form of love can be quite dangerous.

Will, at his core, is not the same as Hannibal. Hannibal will surely try to indoctrinate Will fully into the cannibal murderer lifestyle, but Will won't be able to see it through completely, as he'll have an attack of conscience or a moment of horrified recognition at what he's become. That said, Will and Hannibal's bond is real. No matter what happens, each will want to spare the other. Hannibal won't want to kill Will, and Will won't want to lock Hannibal up again. But eventually, a crossroads will be reached and a choice will have to be made. Will will want Hannibal to stop dropping more bodies, Hannibal will refuse, and their partnership will be severed. Hell hath no fury like a cannibal serial killer scorned.
