The Hanna TV show brings the teenage fighting machine to Amazon Prime. The Hanna TV show is an adaptation of the 2011 action film directed by Joe Wright (Atonement) that helped launch Saoirse Ronan (Mary Queen of Scots) to stardom. The Hanna movie was centered around the titular heroine, an isolated teen who was raised to be a ruthless killer in the wilds of Finland by her father Erik (Eric Bana), an ex-government operative. They are subsequently hunted by a CIA agent (Cate Blanchett) with a vendetta against Erik who wants to capture Hanna for her own nefarious ends.

The upcoming Hanna TV show was announced in 2017 and is written by David Farr, who is the same screenwriter as the feature film. Farr is no stranger to tales of dangerous espionage; he wrote the 2016 AMC miniseries adaptation of John Le Carre's The Night Manager and he worked on the BBC One spy series Spooks (known as MI:5 in the United States). Sadly, Wright won't be returning to direct, but Sarah Adina Smith, who has helmed episodes of Wrecked on TBS and Legion on FX, will call the shots on the pilot.

Amazon Prime's Hanna TV show also intriguingly features the reunion of Joel Kinnaman and Mireille Enos, who starred together in AMC's critically-acclaimed series The Killing. They are joined by newcomer Esme Creed-Miles, who takes over the role of Hanna. Here's everything else we know so far about Amazon Prime's Hanna TV show.

Hanna TV Show Premiered After The Super Bowl

Esme Creed-Miles in Hanna Amazon Prime Video

Amazon made the first episode of the Hanna TV show available to stream immediately after the Super Bowl for Prime members. This is a clever strategy that echos how Netflix surprised fans by releasing The Cloverfield Paradox right after last year's game. The hope is that a preview of the action-packed pilot will entice viewers to make a date with the Hanna TV show when the full series releases and drive up subscriptions to Amazon Prime as well.

Hanna TV Show Release Date (Complete Season)

The Hanna TV show releases on Amazon Prime on March 29, 2019. When the Hanna TV show does debut, every episode of the series will be available for Prime subscribers to stream immediately; this would follow the similar release pattern of Amazon's recent hits, like the John Krasinski-led Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan and Homecoming, which starred Julia Roberts. It's also unknown thus far how many episodes the Hanna TV show's first season will entail, but 8 episodes is presumed, which would resemble Jack Ryan and Homecoming's first seasons as well.

Hanna TV Show Story Details

The Hanna TV show seems like it's following the same pattern as the movie, at least at first. Like in the movie, Hanna is raised in isolation by her soldier father but decides she needs to experience the outside world. Her rebellious exploits see her go on a holiday with a family she meets, where she makes her first friend her age. But Hanna also draws the attention of Marissa and the CIA, who hunt Hanna and Erik.

It's not clear yet if the Hanna TV show will contain the same kind of sci-fi and whimsical fairy tale-inspired elements that helped make the film memorable, but the Amazon series is poised to deepen the story and introduce new characters who are also hunting for Hanna and the truth behind her creation. In all, the Hanna TV show looks to thrillingly combine a coming-of-age drama with blistering action and international espionage, an enticing cocktail for fans of the movie that should also win over a whole new audience.

Hanna TV Show Cast

Saorise Ronan Mireille Enos and Joel Kinnaman

Although they were partners in The Killing, Joel Kinnaman and Mireille Enos are on opposing sides in the Hanna. TV show Kinnaman plays Hanna's father, Erik, a hardened ex-soldier and mercenary, who has raised his daughter in the remote wilderness of Poland for the past 15 years. Erik trained Hanna with essential survival skills but must cope with her desire for freedom and independence from the restrictions he has imposed on her. Enos plays Marissa, a ruthless CIA agent who is hiding a dark secret involving Erik. When Hanna appears on her radar, Hanna and Erik threaten to expose what Marissa has worked long and hard to keep hidden.

As Hanna, who decides to leave confinement to experience life but finds herself hunted by Marissa and others who are connected to the truth behind her origins and abilities, relative newcomer Creed-Miles will hopefully gain the same type of renown Saoirse Ronan achieved all those years ago.

Hanna TV Show Trailer

Amazon had previously released two trailers for the Hanna TV show so far; a cryptic tease about a baby heist, a more traditional glimpse at the teenage Hanna in action, which lays down the basic concept of the upcoming series. Accompanying the reveal of the surprise Super Bowl premiere, they released a full teaser for the full the Hanna TV show's first season, which you can watch above.
