Elisabeth Moss, the Emmy-winning star of Hulu's hit series The Handmaid's Tale, will step behind the camera to direct episode three of season 4. Based on Margaret Atwood's novel of the same name, The Handmaid's Tale follows Moss's character Offred aka June, living in a dystopian totalitarian version of the United States that has taken away women's independence. Also starring Yvonne Strahovski (Dexter), Joseph Fiennes (Shakespeare in Love), and Ann Dowd (The Leftovers), The Handmaid's Tale season 4 premieres this fall.

According to THR, Moss, who is also an executive producer on the series, will be directing the third episode of the new season. It will serve as her directorial debut. The show went back into production this week. Moss commented on her new role, saying how she "can’t wait to try my hand at working with my collaborators from this new perspective."

Showrunner and executive producer Bruce Miller (Eureka) is incredibly supportive of Moss's directing debut, saying that Moss "has fostered a supportive environment that allows artists to do their best work," and through this new move, she "is now benefiting from this incredibly generous and ambitious atmosphere she helped create." Fans of the show and Moss's work will no doubt be excited to see what she brings to The Handmaid's Tale season 4 by stepping behind the camera on this episode.

Last September, Atwood published a long-awaited sequel to The Handmaid's TaleThe Testaments is set 15 years after The Handmaid's Tale, and narrated by three characters, including Aunt Lydia. Most recently, Moss starred in The Invisible Manloosely based the classic story. Next, fans will get to see Moss's directorial debut when The Handmaid's Tale season 4 premieres later this year on Hulu.
