YouTube star sWooZie wishes Donald Glover would stop blocking his efforts to become a movie star. sWooZie (real name Adande Thorne) says he auditioned to play Lando Calrissian in Disney's Young Han Solo movie before Glover came in and took the part. And that's not the only role sWooZie accuses Glover of "stealing" from him.
sWooZie already has one movie credit to his name, a minor role in The Space Between Us, but he's best-known as a professional gamer and online personality with a YouTube channel that boasts 600 million total views. He once also interviewed Barack Obama during a YouTube live stream.
Scoring the role of Lando in Young Han Solo would obviously have given sWooZie's career a major boost but thanks to Donald Glover, it didn't happen. sWooZie told a VidCon panel Friday about going in to try out for the part of Lando (via EW):
“I also auditioned for the new Star Wars. That was awesome. This guy, Donald Glover. You know who Donald Glover is? Childish Gambino? He’s taking all my roles, bro. He got Star Wars over me. He got Lion King, ‘cause they’re redoing Lion King.”
In addition to his role as young Lando, Donald Glover is indeed playing Simba in Disney's live-action Lion King remake directed by Jon Favreau. He also has a role in Spider-Man: Homecoming the details of which have largely been kept under wraps. With all this movie work going down, Glover has announced that he's killing off his rap-star alter ego, Childish Gambino.
Without seeing sWooZie's audition, it's impossible to say for sure if he would have been right for Lando Calrissian, the interstellar card player and original owner of the Millennium Falcon who becomes friends with a young Han Solo (and later conspires with Darth Vader to freeze Solo in Carbonite, an act he atones for by helping rescue Han from Jabba the Hutt and blowing up the second Death Star). We still haven't seen any footage of Donald Glover in the role either, but we do at least know that Glover has the perfect mustache.
Considering the turmoil on the set of Young Han Solo after the firing of Phil Lord and Christopher Miller and the hiring of Ron Howard as director, perhaps sWooZie is lucky he missed out on the chance to play Lando. Instead of starring in Young Han Solo or The Lion King, sWooZie will be hosting a shoe design competition show called Lace Up on YouTube Red.
