Composed by Lin-Manuel Miranda, the Hamilton soundtrack was inspired by historical events and hip-hop bravado. The two-act Disney+ film was originally filmed in front of a live audience in 2016 and features nearly three hours of upbeat, intellectual rhymes, along with slower tracks that capture the spirit of the focal character.

Hamilton tells the story of Alexander Hamilton (Miranda), a man who emigrated to the United States from the Caribbean island of Nevis and became a prominent American politician. The narrative explores his professional relationship with U.S. President George Washington (Christopher Jackson), his marriage to Elizabeth Schuyler (Phillipa Soo), and his political rivalry with Thomas Jefferson (Daveed Diggs). Hamilton builds toward the title character's infamous duel with U.S. Vice President Aaron Burr (Leslie Odom Jr.).

Originally on Broadway, Hamilton is a song-to-song musical with almost no dialogue in between, meaning the soundtrack essentially is the play. Most of the soundtrack is comprised of hip-hop educational tracks with a few softer songs that allow for a mental break before the wordplay picks up again. The ending credits on the Disney+ presentation includes a remix of one of the musical's best songs, "My Shot."  Here's every featured song in Hamilton.

Aaron Burr Hamilton

Hamilton begins with "Alexander Hamilton," an expositional track that establishes the title character's backstory. Soon after, Alexander and his pals discuss their hopes and dreams via "My Shot." Midway through Act 1, the female characters receive a chance to shine with "Helpless" and "Satisfied," which chronicle Alexander's courtship of his wife, Eliza.

Act 1 of Hamilton culminates with "Yorktown," which is a decisive battle in the Revolutionary War. The second half kicks off with the rap battle track "Cabinet Battle," which discusses the complex politics of the day via rap battles, and Groff's King George III returns for comic relief with "I Know Him." When "The Adams Administration" is performed, everything begins to go wrong for the title character.

"The Reynolds Pamphlet" explores Alexander's dirty deeds and attempts to protect his reputation. In response, his wife sings the ballad "Burn," and the narrative takes a dark turn when their son Philip is killed during a duel. Burr performs "The World Was Wide Enough" after a tragic encounter with Miranda's character, and "Who Lives, Who Dies, Who Tells Your Story" closes out Hamilton with lyrics about life, loss, and legacy.
