Netflix's latest series from Ryan MurphyHalston, gets a new trailer, giving a first look at Ewan McGregor as the fashion icon. Murphy has worked closely with Netflix in recent years thanks to his multi-million dollar first look deal. This relationship has produced hit shows like HollywoodRatched, and The Politician. Murphy has also produced films for the platform, including The Prom and The Boys in the Band. His latest project for the streamer hits Netflix this month and will document the rise and fall of fashion designer Halston during the 1960s and 70s.

McGregor stars as the titular character whose primary goal is to become a household name in women's fashion. Halston is filled with colorful characters, including Rory Culkin as Joel Schumacher, Krysta Rodriguez as Liza Minelli, Gianfranco Rodriguez as Victor Hugo, and Rebecca Davan as Elsa Peretti. Murphy signed on to produce the project based on the book Simply Halston in 2019, bringing it to Netflix as part of his overall deal.

With Halston's premiere date looming, Netflix has finally released a full length trailer for the series filled with a pumping techno score courtesy of Depeche Mode and gorgeous visuals that show off the titular designer's famous clothes. McGregor is front and center in the clip, narrating the trailer and professing his desire to "change the face of American fashion." The trailer highlights Halston's high end fashion and glimpses into the designer's deteriorating personal life, showing off the chaos to come as Halston fights to become a household name while battling his own ego. Murphy's projects have been largely hit-or-miss on Netflix. While the producer has a rabid fanbase that will devour just about anything he releases, critics haven't taken as kindly to shows like Hollywood and Ratched. Still, Murphy knows how to make a bright and colorful period piece and Halston looks no different. From the fashion to the locations, the Netflix series leans wholeheartedly into the era.

With Halston set to premiere this May, Netflix is starting off their summer slate with something for everyone. From movies like Army of the Dead to series like Jupiter's Legacy, the streamer is making a splash with its originals. Halston is a perfect balm for anyone not into the blockbuster fare, but still looking for a series that has a healthy dose of humor and drama. McGregor looks to be turning out a flamboyant performance and it's quite possible that Murphy has another hit on his hands.
