A newly released behind-the-scenes video show's how Halo season 1's Covenant Prophet High Council to life through amazing puppets used on set during filming. The Paramount+ original series is an adaptation of 343 Industries' hit sci-fi videogame franchise that first aired in March. Halo stars Pablo Schreiber as the Master Chief, an enhanced Spartan II supersoldier who defends humanity against an alien alliance known as the Covenant, who are hellbent on wiping out the human race due to viewing them as an affront to their religious beliefs.

In a new video revealed by Polygon ahead of Halo season 1's home release, the team behind the sci-fi series reveals how they brought the Prophets of Truth, Regret, and Mercy, the San Shyuum who form the Covenant's High Council into live-action through impressive puppetry. As part of the featurette exploring the highly-viewed Halo TV series' production, the video offers an extensive look at the three puppets that used realistic prosthetics, operators inside the costumes, and complex mechanisms to bring the three aliens to life. While other creatures such as the Grunts, Elites, and Brutes were created largely through digital effects, the three Prophets' impressive puppets helped provide the cast with a line of sight during filming, as well as providing guidance for lighting once digital effects are added. What's In Store For Halo Season 2

Halo Season 1 Behind the Scenes Prophet Puppet

While Halo season 1's finale "Transcendence" saw the Master Chief thwart the Covenant's attempts to locate the fabled Halo installation, the currently in-production Halo season 2 promises to continue to further explore the events of the Human-Covenant War. In season 1, the Covenant human agent Makee (Charlie Murphy) was brought to Reach after posing as a former prisoner of the Covenant, ordered by the High Council to recover the Forerunner Keystone needed to discover Halo's location. While the Covenant's plans were thwarted and the Keystones were recovered by humanity, season 2 could see the Covenant retaliate by launching an attack on Reach. In the game series' continuity, the Covenant invasion of Reach is a key event that saw the planet destroyed by the Covenant fleet, as seen in 2010's Halo Reach. Despite losing a valuable world, the UNSC would discover Halo in the wake of the Fall of Reach, meaning season 2 could possibly adapt these events and finally head to the show's titular ringworld.

However, with Halo season 2 also seeing Makee return, despite seemingly being fatally wounded during the season 1 finale, the show may also have a number of surprises in store for audiences. While it is unclear how Makee survived and whether she remains loyal to the Covenant after saving the Master Chief's life, the two still share a connection thanks to their unique ability to activate Forerunner artifacts, marking them both as key assets for both the UNSC and Covenant during the war. With the Master Chief having his memories potentially permanently erased after allowing Cortana to assume control of his body during the battle in episode 9, it is unknown whether he still retains memories of their bond and experiences. As such, season 2 may see the pair reunite with an entirely different dynamic to the first season.

With Paramount+ considering Halo a success, it is clear that for now, the sci-fi series' future seems guaranteed. While the show's faithfulness to the source material has been met with criticism, the impressive puppets show an incredible amount of passion was given during development. And while audiences await news about season 2, the new behind-the-scenes video shows the series' incredible dedication to translating the game's cast to live-action.
