Halo: The Master Chief Collection is coming to the PC platform. The latest episode of Xbox Insider revealed that the collection would be coming to the PC and is being worked on already, although no release date was announced.

Halo: The Master Chief Collection has been the subject of a lot of fan speculation over the past day or so, with rumors flying that the compilation of Halo games was almost certainly going to be revealed for PC in the near future. With the release of Halo Infinite on the horizon, it made sense for Microsoft to consider something to buoy fans until then. That came to fruition today, alongside the announcement that Halo Reach will finally be joining the Master Chief Collection as well.

Halo: The Master Chief Collection is now confirmed for the PC platform, and alongside that confirmation came some vital details. The game is being emphasized as not a port, but rather a completely new endeavor for the collection. The team was described as being "deliberate and intentional" in how they will bring it to the PC, and during the interview, several features were listed as priorities, which included: great mouse and keyboard controls; FOV sliders; remappable key bindings; and support for various screen resolutions, all of which would not be available in a direct port but will be added as the game collection is brought to PC.

Halo TV Series Story Idea

The other major takeaway from the announcement of Halo: The Master Chief Collection for PC is that it will be released in instalments. Rather than develop each game for the PC and release them all together, which would be too time-consuming, the collection will instead release Halo titles as they are finished being modified for PC optimization. There weren't details on how that release schedule will really look, but it seems safe to say that there will be reasonably lengthy times in between each game's release on PC. Unlike the console variant, the PC version of the collection will also offer each individual game for sale on their own, so players won't necessarily need to shell out for the entire group if they're not interested.

From the sounds of it, Halo: The Master Chief Collection for PC will almost function like a game pass, not unlike the one that Xbox is already famous for. Players who purchase it will eventually have access to all the titles on the console version alongside the newly added Halo Reach, and they will also receive PC modifications for these titles that make them better-suited to the platform. Availability on Steam appears to be pushing a consumer-first mentality, and the options available for Halo: The Master Chief Collection on PC should make it one of the biggest Microsoft releases once it's ready. In the lead up to Halo Infinite, this type of release is likely going to help attract even more fans to the next iteration of a classic franchise.
