Halo has traditionally been a console exclusive franchise. But, with the launch of Halo Infinite's multiplayer beta, PC gamers are getting their first day 1 Halo launch since Combat Evolved (2001). 343 Industries didn't disappoint when they stealth-dropped the game on PC and Xbox last week, unlike other recent major releases. The only backlash has seemed to come from its progression system, which 343i has been tweaking since Halo Infinite's release. The PC port of the game looks stunning and performs well on most rigs, with over 30 visual settings for PC players to tweak to their liking.

PC gaming allows players to customize their visual settings, giving them the option to get the most out of their hardware and game performance by enabling them to raise or lower graphical settings. Doing this can help with getting a high FPS (frames per second) in-game. Having a high FPS is essential for any competitive first-person shooter, especially for Halo Infinite, which requires players to aim for the head to succeed.   That being said, PC players can easily achieve smooth 60+ FPS in Halo Infinite on older PC hardware. PC players with higher-end setups will be able to enjoy an even smoother 120+ FPS with a few tweaks to their visual settings, depending on their hardware.

Before heading into the game's graphical settings, players should be sure to update to the latest version of their GPU drivers. This will ensure that the player gets the most out of their GPU performance-wise and fix any odd performance issues. The performance/quality of the game highly depends on the type of hardware and at what resolution Halo Infinite is running. For example, playing a game at 1920x1080p will allow for a much higher FPS than playing at 2560x1440p but will have clear visual fidelity differences.

Nvidia graphics card owners can easily update their GPU drivers through the GeForce Experience app:

  1. Open GeForce experience app.
  2. Click the "Drivers' "tab on the top left.
  3. Click the "check for updates" tab on the top right
  4. Install it via "Express" or "Custom" installations tabs on the top-right if a new driver is available.

How to Update AMD Graphics Driver:

AMD graphics card users can update their GPU drivers using the Radeon Settings:

  1. Right-click on your desktop
  2. Select AMD Radeon Settings
  3. Click on the Home icon
  4. Click 'New Updates' on the bottom left
  5. Select the "check or updates" tab
  6. If an update is available, follow the steps provided

Players with AMD hardware should be aware of Windows 11 slowing down their PC and should avoid the update altogether.

Halo Infinite PC System Requirements

Minimum (60+ FPS depending on settings):

  • OS: Windows 10 RS3 x64
  • Processor: AMD FX-8370 or Intel i5-4440
  • Memory: 8 GB RAM
  • Graphics: AMD RX 570 or Nvidia GTX 1050 ti
  • DirectX: Version 12
  • Storage: 50 GB available

Any players with the minimum PC system requirements should keep all visual settings on Low.

Recommended (80-165+ FPS depending on settings)

  • OS: Windows 10 19H2 x64
  • Processor: AMD Ryzen 7 3700X or Intel i7-9700k
  • Memory: 16 GB RAM
  • Graphics: Radeon RX 5700 XT or Nvidia RTX 2070
  • DirectX: Version 12
  • Storage: 50 GB available

While these are the recommended requirements for PC  to achieve benchmarks like 60 FPS or 120 FPS according to 343I, how Halo Infinite runs on any given PC is primarily up to the player thanks to its extensive visual setting options.

Here are the best settings for players looking to achieve maximum framerate while maintaining good quality, as well as for players trying to achieve 120+ FPS on PCs that closely match 343I's recommended hardware specs. Players should note that FPS is also highly dependent on what game mode is being played. For example, Halo Infinite Ranked 4v4 modes will perform much better than Big Team Battle 12v12 modes.

"Ultra" settings can be applied to any of these settings if the player's PC hardware allows for it but is not recommended based on the game's current PC optimization. The game's multiplayer servers can also affect the framerate while playing, so performance may improve in offline modes. Halo Infinite's multiplayer is currently in beta, and any of these settings are subject to change after the games day 1 patch when the Halo Infinite campaign launches on December 8th.
