According to one leaker, Master Chief may have some new equipment in Halo Infinite's multiplayer modes. With the campaign gameplay reveal of the upcoming sixth entry in the mainline Halo series just a matter of hours away, the rumor mill is churning overtime. Microsoft is releasing brief glimpses of Master Chief in his old school-inspired armor every day on social media, but fans are eager for more info. Outside of two short trailers, Microsoft hasn't said one word regarding 343 Industries' latest, including what structure its campaign might take on. However, in a Halo game, the campaign is just one side of the coin.

Halo's multiplayer has taken many forms over the years, with each entry in the series playing somewhat differently. Halo: Combat Evolved features close quarters symmetrical combat enhanced by its mythical 3-shot pistol. Halo 2 introduced dual-wielding, while Halo 3 split the difference with a focus on the assault rifle and equipment. 343's first major entry focused heavily on Big Team Battle matches, while Halo 5: Guardians introduced rifles into the Halo: Combat Evolved style alongside an enhanced movement system and a massive new mode, Warzone. Each game feels like Halo, but they all have small tweaks and altered arsenals that keep them distinct.

In a post on ResetEra, known Xbox leaker Klobrille revealed what he knows about Halo Infinite's multiplayer arena gameplay. According to him, Halo Infinite continues Halo 5: Guardians' return to map control gameplay, where teams or individuals fight over Rocket Launchers and Overshields. In addition to the classic extra shielding, Klobrille mentions the Thrust from Halo 5: Guardians and a grappling hook as possible power-ups players can acquire. These aren't tied to specific maps or modes but designed to dynamically change depending on your chosen playlist. The designers can craft a bespoke Rumble Pit and Capture the Flag scenario for each map without pumping out multiple variants.

Having things like Thrust as a power-up rather than an inherent ability possibly throws all of the Halo 5: Guardians Spartan Abilities onto the chopping block. Considering the controversy of Sprint, it seems like something that may not return, at least not in the form it was presented in the last game. Halo 5: Guardians also featured a Speed Boost power-up in Warzone, which could provide somewhat of a replacement in the multiplayer sandbox. There's also the questions of starting weapons, which isn't touched upon at all in the leak. Will player wield a long-range Battle Rifle by default, so some kind of enhanced Assault Rifle for old time's sake?

The calm before the storm is always a fun place to be, especially with something as big as Halo Infinite's first gameplay reveal. While these Arena multiplayer leaks will likely not even be answered by Thursday's Xbox event, Halo fans will still get a good look at what type of game they'll be enjoying this holiday and possibly even who they may be fighting. Considering how many hundreds of hours players can put into these types of experiences, even the slightest altered detail could change things drastically for the franchise's loyal player base.
