Halo Infinite's second limited-time event has finally arrived with a brand new game mode, rewards, and challenges for players to dive into. Following player frustrations with the first "Tenrai" event back in November, 343I has been determined to make future limited-time events much more fun and rewarding to play. They successfully addressed players' frustrations with things like event store prices and difficult challenges during the Tenrai event's 2nd outing last month. The new Cyber Showdown Event has proved once again that they are heading in the right direction, with a brand new game mode, lower store prices, easier challenges, and a longer 2-week window to get everything the event has to offer before it's gone.

After 343I decided to add more staple Halo game modes to Halo Infinite like Team Slayer, Fiesta, Tactical Slayer (SWAT), and Free-For-All, the Tenrai event was left with no new game mode to center its challenges around. While this was an issue for the Tenrai event, the Cyber Showdown event introduces a brand new game mode to the Halo series; Attrition. Attrition is a high-stakes variation of Team Slayer, where each team of 4 spawns in with eight shared lives. Once all 8 of either team's lives are depleted, the match enters a "Danger Zone" phase where the team without lives can revive their downed teammates until they are all eliminated. There's even a battle royale-like closing circle during this phase to push teams that may be playing it safely into combat. Whichever team takes their opponent's lives and eliminates them from the match wins the round.

With Halo fans recently rallying to boycott Halo Infinites in-game store, 343I has finally started to lower the prices of cosmetics in the store. Bundles that were once $20 are now $10, and other smaller pieces of cosmetics are being sold for less than $5. Unfortunately, there is still no option to buy certain smaller armor pieces separately from bundles or a way to earn any of the store's currency in-game like other free-to-play games, so there is still work to be done. The Cyber Showdown event does bring some event-exclusive cosmetics to the store, but they are much cheaper than the Tenrai event's steep $20 options. Aside from the event cosmetics in the store, all other synthwave themed rewards in Halo Infinite can be earned through the event's free pass by completing challenges.

The Cyber Showdown event's synthwave themed cosmetics are sure to catch the eyes of teammates and opponents while playing Infinite, even if the visor is a little off-center. Additionally, the Attrition game mode is a fun and intense addition to Infinite's sandbox that was desperately needed due to the lack of modes currently in the game (and big team battle being completely broken). Hopefully, 343i has learned from the backlash of taking the Fiesta game mode out of the game after the first Tenrai event was complete and kept Attrition as a permanent playlist.
