Halo Infinite is set to release on December 8, but what will fans actually be getting if they buy the full game? Many Halo fans were excited when the Infinite multiplayer was released a month early as part of Xbox's 20th-anniversary celebrations. The multiplayer has been a success so far, but a lot of fans are disappointed with the monetization in the game and the inability to play specific playlists.

Infinite is the 6th main entry to the Halo series, and the 3rd developed by 343 industries. The game is the successor to 2015's Halo 5: Guardians and continues the story of legendary spartan protagonist Master Chief. Halo Infinite will run on the new Slipspace Engine and will be available to play on Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and on PC - and be on Game Pass - but what do players who buy the game actually get?

Due to the Halo Infinite multiplayer being free, many fans are wondering what else they are getting if they buy Infinite after it launches. Unfortunately, Infinite seems to be offering the least amount of content for the cost. The game retails at $59.99 and for that price, players will be getting just a solo-only campaign mode to accompany the already-free multiplayer. On paper, it appears to be the lowest value and lowest content Halo release in the history of the franchise. Having only two modes, with one of them being free and heavily monetized, does not look to be worth the $59.99 price tag.

Xbox Game Pass Is The Best Way To Play Halo Infinite

With such little extra content on offer, Game Pass looks to offer the best value for fans wanting to play Halo Infinite's campaign. Currently, there are no plans for the firefight mode to return, no news on more multiplayer modes being added, and Infinite's campaign co-op release is further away than before. With so many things that fans normally expect a Halo game to have missing, they might not want to pay the full price just to play the campaign. The best alternative to this is to make use of Xbox's Game Pass service, which only costs $9.99 a month.

If Halo Infinite wants to earn its AAA price tag then it needs to deliver the content expected from a AAA game. Currently, players would be better off purchasing GamePass for $10, some players can also get their first month for just $1 if they are joining for the first time, which gives them plenty of time to complete the campaign without having to pay full price for it. Early reviews of Halo Infinite have been mostly positive, but the lack of content holds it back from being worth its full price.

Halo Infinite is a good game, and many fans agree that is a good direct successor to Halo 5 and a worthy spiritual successor to Halo: Reach's multiplayer. However, 343's decision-making has held the game back from reaching its full potential and it will need to spend a lot of time to make the game realize that potential. 343 should focus the next months on rolling out large updates that address fans' biggest complaints with the multiplayer, and add the missing modes that fans are used to having in Halo. In the meantime, fans can enjoy Halo Infinite's free multiplayer and even complete the campaign using Game Pass.
