Blumhouse's 2018 sequel to the original Halloween has added Falling Skies' Will Patton, and also marked John Carpenter's birthday on set. The latest entry into the storied Halloween franchise hits theaters this October, and is set to be directed by David Gordon Green. Co-writing the script are Green and Danny McBride. Halloween (2018) - in a way similar to 1998 sequel Halloween H20 - will reboot the franchise slightly, serving as a direct sequel to Carpenter's 1978 classic.
Halloween (2018) recently began production in South Carolina, and cast announcements have been hitting left and right recently. Of course, the most famous addition to the cast so far is Jamie Lee Curtis, reprising her role as Laurie Strode. While Laurie was killed off in 2002's Halloween: Resurrection, the fact that the prior sequels are being ignored allows her to come back. It remains to be seen if the plot point about Laurie being Michael's sister - which wasn't introduced until 1981's Halloween II - will be retained.
Now, The Tracking Board reports that prolific character actor Will Patton has joined the Halloween cast. Details on his role are scarce so far, but he'll play a cop. One wonders if his character will be any relation to Sheriff Brackett from the original Halloween. Patton is probably best known to genre fans for his five seasons as a regular on TNT's alien invasion drama Falling Skies, which signed off in 2015. Patton could most recently be seen on FOX's limited cop show Shots Fired. Additionally, John Carpenter's birthday was rightfully commemorated on the Halloween set, as revealed in an Instagram post by McBride. Check it out below.
Legendary director Carpenter ended up having quite the odd birthday, with a tweet from Rotten Tomatoes mistakenly declaring the now 70-year-old director dead. As Carpenter himself would later point out, "despite how it appears, I'm not actually dead." Horror and sci-fi fans the world over are no doubt thankful for that, as it'll be a truly sad day when Carpenter - who counts cult classics They Live, Escape from New York, and The Thing as part of his extensive resume - is no longer around to share his expertise, ideas, and often blunt opinions.
In addition to Jamie Lee Curtis, Will Patton also joins previously announced Halloween cast members Judy Greer, Andi Matichak, Virginia Gardner, Miles Robbins, Dylan Arnold, and Drew Scheid. Also returning to the franchise is Nick Castle, who originated the Michael Myers role.
