In the Halloween franchise, Michael Myers’ age was not much of a plot point after the 1978 original. A variety of different timelines made his true age somewhat vague. Though the boogeyman might be a timeless construct, Myers was a flesh and blood human given a specific age that marked his first murder. Reviewing each film, and the date it took place, shines a light on how old Haddonfield’s most notorious criminal was in every installment.

John Carpenter’s classic movie began on Halloween night in 1963. When Myers murdered his sister Judith, he was six years old according to Dr. Loomis (Donald Pleasence). Fifteen years later, when the young psychopath escaped from Smith’s Grove Sanitarium, he was 21. While this math might be simple enough, a mistake in the end credits of the film referred to actor Tony Moran as Michael Myers (age 23). Though multiple people played the killer, Moran was “the face” of the character in a brief shot when his mask was removed. This discrepancy caused some confusion in the following years regarding his true age.

Setting the incorrect credit listing aside, Myers’ age is 21 during the events of the original film and Halloween II (1981), which occurs on the same night as the original. The three years between the two films may have also contributed to some uncertainty about Myers’ age. After the unrelated Halloween III: Season of the Witch the following year, it took six more years for the boogeyman to return.

How Old Is Michael Myers Throughout The Halloween Franchise?

Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers took place exactly a decade after the 1978 massacre. Myers was 31 during his quest to kill his niece, Jamie (Danielle Harris). Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers was both released and took place one year later. Myers was 32 years old in the third film to feature his character.

It took another six years before there was another direct follow-up. Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers, like its predecessors, took place in the same year that it was released. Myers was still rather young when he got involved in a mysterious druid cult. In Curse, which had a notoriously difficult post-production process, the unstoppable psychopath was 38 years old. In the 20th anniversary sequel, which disregarded installments 4-6, the action picked up 20 years after the original film. Therefore, Myers is 41 in Halloween: H20, the film that brought back Jamie Lee Curtis as Laurie Strode. The next film, Halloween: Resurrection, was released in 2002, and took place in two separate years. The eighth film in the franchise and the seventh to feature Myers, opened in 2001 and jumped ahead to 2002. Due to this, Myers was both 44 and 45, respectively, during the events of Resurrection.

In the Rob Zombie 2007 reboot, Myers was ten years old when he killed his sister, and 27 when he escaped Smith’s Grove. Zombie’s 2009 sequel took place a year later, when Myers was 28. When Blumhouse decided to produce a new sequel—one that disregarded every follow-up—fans were anxious about yet another reboot. 2018’s Halloween, again starring Jamie Lee Curtis, was a hit with fans and critics alike. Taking place 40 years after the original, Myers was 61 years old, and still creating chaos like a 21 year old. In next year's direct sequel Halloween Kills, the action picks up on the same night in 2018. Similar to Halloween II (1981), Myers will be the same age as the previous film: 61.
