There's still more than a year before Halloween Kills arrives in theatres, but with the film in production, we already have an idea of which characters will be returning - including some familiar faces from the original Halloween.

Directed by David Gordon Green, Halloween (2018) is a direct sequel to John Carpenter's Halloween (1978) that ignores everything from Halloween 2 onwards and creates a new continuity. Most notably, the detail of Laurie Strode being Michael Myers' sister has been retconned away, though it was mentioned in Halloween 2018 as being a rumor that had gotten out of hand. Green is set to direct a trilogy of Halloween movies that will continue with Halloween Kills and conclude in 2021 with Halloween Ends.

As the Strode family prepares for another showdown with Michael Myers, here's a breakdown of all of the characters who are confirmed to be returning for Halloween Kills in 2020.

Returning Characters From Halloween 2018

Halloween - Laurie Karen and Allyson Strode

Jamie Lee Curtis as Laurie Strode: After preparing for forty years, Laurie managed to survive her fiery encounter with Michael by turning her home into a giant booby-trap nightmare. Whether she's able to thwart her nemesis once again is uncertain, but surely the franchise won't make the same mistake as Halloween: Resurrection by killing off Jamie Lee Curtis in the opening scene? That stomach wound Laurie suffered in battle will likely require some hospital time, but she should recover.

Judy Greer as Karen Nelson: It turns out that Karen is a little tougher than she initially appears. In Halloween, Laurie's daughter proved her mettle in battle and helped her estranged mother to defeat the boogeyman. The danger is in Hollywood's penchant for misusing or even dismissing Greer, which makes Karen the most likely member of the Strode family to get offed in the sequel.

Andi Matichak as Allyson Nelson: Allyson initially seemed poised to inherit the Final Girl mantle from her grandmother in the first film, but the reality is that the teenager didn't do much during her family's battle with Michael Myers. She has two more films to hone her survival skills as Allyson may well be the sole survivor at the end of the trilogy.

James Jude Courtney and Nick Castle as Michael Myers: Shocking no one, Michael Myers a.k.a. The Shape will be back for two more rounds of murder and mayhem. Last heard breathing heavily over the credits of Halloween, the unstoppable killing machine will presumably track the Strode family to the hospital as they seek medical attention in the wake of the fiery battle that closed the first film.

Dylan Arnold as Cameron Elam: Allyson's cheating, ne'er-do-well boyfriend disappeared from the first film, so at least a portion of the audience will be interested to see if he gets what he deserves when he returns for the sequel.

Omar Dorsey as Sheriff Barker: The ineffective Haddonfield Sheriff survived the first film because he steered clear of Doctor Sartain. Perhaps by the time that the sequel arrives, Sheriff Barker will be more ready to leap into action and help.

Jibrail Nantambu as Julian Morrissey: The first film's break-out character is also slated to return in Halloween Kills. What role this precocious tyke could possibly serve is unclear, though presumably after seeing his babysitter Vicky murdered, Julian will also be at the hospital seeking treatment.

Returning Characters From Other Halloween Movies

Real Housewives' Kyle Richards Urges Sister to Seek Mental Health Treatment

Kyle Richards as Lindsey Wallace: Never mind that Kyle Richards is more famous now for her role on the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills reality TV franchise than for her work in the original Halloween. The little girl who survived Annie's death in the 1978 film will also reprise her role in the new film (the character did appear in Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers, but she was played by Leslie L. Rohland and that timeline has since been erased from continuity).

Anthony Michael Hall as Tommy Doyle: Another babysitter massacre survivor is Tommy Doyle, Laurie's original charge from Halloween. Like Lindsey, this is the second iteration of the character to appear in a Halloween film: Tommy was previously glimpsed in Halloween 6: The Curse of Michael Myers, where he was played by Paul Rudd.

Nancy Stephens as Nurse Marion Chambers: Stephens has made a bit of a career playing Nurse Marion: Halloween Kills will be her third time reprising the character (following Halloween 2 and Halloween H20: Twenty Years Later), though due to the revised timeline of the Halloween mythos, this will only be her second canonical appearance. Look for her to be fixing up patients at the Haddonfield hospital.

Charles Cypher as Sheriff Leigh Brackett: Just like Nurse Marion, Sheriff Brackett has also made several appearances in the fictional universe of the Halloween films, including the original and its sequel. Perhaps the two Sheriffs will team-up and join forces?

We'll update this list as any additional returning cast members come onboard.
