The first trailer for Halloween Kills has arrived, and aside from showing how Michael Myers survived the fire at the end of the previous movie, it also reveals he will be unmasked – and here’s what he will look like. The horror genre is home to many franchises led by slashers that have become part of pop culture, and among those is the Halloween franchise. It all began in 1978 with John Carpenter’s Halloween, which introduced the audience to serial killer Michael Myers and final girl Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis).

Halloween tells the story of Michael Myers, who on Halloween night 1963, murdered his sister when he was just six years old. Michael was sent to Smith’s Grove Sanitarium, but he escaped 15 years later, on October 30, 1978. He then returned to his hometown Haddonfield, Illinois, and he began to stalk Laurie Strode and her friends on Halloween night. Laurie became the only survivor of Michael’s killing spree and continued to be his main target in most movies (when she was killed, her daughter Jamie Lloyd became the target). The Halloween franchise has gone through different retcons, and it’s currently on a “reboot” process, with Laurie Strode back again, and in all these years, Michael has only shown his face to the camera three times.

That is about to change in Halloween Kills, as the first trailer shows that Michael Myers will be unmasked in this new story, with Laurie’s daughter Karen (Judy Greer) holding his mask and taunting him. Whether his face will be shown on screen or he will give his back to the camera as he did in the previous movie is unknown, but those who are curious about what he would look like unmasked don’t need to worry. The actor behind the mask in the Halloween reboot timeline is James Jude Courtney, and a behind-the-scenes photo from the previous Halloween movie showed him as an unmasked Michael Myers, with his left eye scarred after the events of the original Halloween.

Michael Myers Unmasked Halloween Kills

The reboot timeline comes directly after Carpenter’s movie, and as Laurie stabbed him in the eye with a hanger in their first encounter, Michael was given a huge scar across his eye, showing that he’s now blind in that eye. An unmasked Michael in Halloween Kills would pretty much look like Courtney does in that behind-the-scenes photo, with the scar across his eye, sporting a beard and a mustache, and with little hair left on his head. It’s important to remember that Halloween Kills begins right after the events of the previous movie, very much like Halloween II did, so an unmasked Michael wouldn’t change much as not much time passed between the first act of the previous movie, where he appeared unmasked (though his full face wasn’t shown), and the beginning of Halloween Kills.

Michael Myers has been unmasked on two previous occasions: at the end of the original movie, where his full face was shown, and in the final act of Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers. He also appeared without a mask in Rob Zombie’s Halloween movies, but that’s a timeline of its own. Halloween Kills will be breaking a tradition by unmasking Michael, but it remains to be seen if his full face will be shown on screen or not.
