Warning: SPOILERS ahead for Halloween Kills!

David Gordon Green's Halloween Kills finally creates a clever connection between Michael Myers and actor Mike Myers with the help of cast member Michael McDonald. Since his inception in John Carpenter's Halloween in 1978, Michael Myers has been a name synonymous with horror due to the figure's prominence in the slasher genre. Comedian Mike Myers, on the other hand, might share a name with "The Shape," but there has been nothing else to link the two until now.

By the time Mike Myers rose to prominence as a player in Saturday Night Live in the late '80s and early '90s, Halloween was already a notable horror franchise. Still, he was easily able to distinguish himself from the masked killer with his comedic roles. Aside from playing Wayne Campbell in Wayne's World, the actor was known for his work voicing the titular character in Shrek and creating the Austin Powers franchise where he played multiple characters, including Austin, Dr. Evil, and Fat Bastard. Coincidentally, it's the Austin Powers series that wound up linking Mike Myers to Halloween.

Since Mike Myers came into the spotlight, there have been hilarious fan theories suggesting the actor was truly the man behind the mask in Halloween. The fun often spawns fan-edited videos, inserting the actor into Halloween footage or Michael Myers in scenes from Austin Powers and Shrek. There was even a joke in 2017's Baby Driver when the criminals were forced to wear Mike Myers masks instead of Michael Myers' signature white mask. Still, the true link between Michael and Mike Myers comes from Michael McDonald, who starred in multiple Austin Powers movies and Halloween Kills. More importantly, McDonald has the honor of a new record, considering he is the only actor to be killed by both Michael Myers and a Mike Myers character.

The steamroller death in Austin Powers

As mentioned, Michael McDonald appeared in the Austin Powers franchise well before joining Halloween Kills. The MADtv alum played Steve the security guard in 1997's Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery. In one particular scene, Mike Myers' British spy Austin attempted to infiltrate the Virtucon headquarters alongside Vanessa Kensington (Elizabeth Hurley). The HQ was actually a front for Dr. Evil latest enterprise, so the area was teeming with henchmen, including Steve. The security guard tried to stop Austin and Vanessa from escaping on a steamroller in a memorable sequence. Despite the space between them and the slow speed, McDonald's Steve was killed by being run over by Austin's steamroller.

In Halloween Kills, Michael McDonald plays the role of Little John, a newcomer to the franchise who lives with his partner, Big John (Scott MacArthur), in the old Myers home. Since the mayhem in 1978, the Myers residence has been fixed up and renovated to match a modern-day aesthetic. Though Little John and Big John hope for a quiet Halloween night, they are prepared for hijinks, considering the history of their home. Unfortunately, Michael Myers was motivated to return home, spelling doom for the new inhabitants. Big John is the first to get killed before Little John finds his body in Judith Myers' old bedroom. Michael is also there, who then quickly goes after Little John. Allyson (Andi Matichak) later finds both men as Little John had a charcuterie knife sticking from his chest.

Though it's unlikely McDonald would return for Halloween Ends based on Little John's death, the actor did have a future in Austin Powers, appearing as a new character in the 1999 sequel, Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me. Over two decades later, the actor would become the link between Mike Myers and Michael Myers, having been killed by both figures after his death in Halloween Kills. Maybe a future Halloween movie will give fans an actual cameo from Mike Myers after rejecting a cameo in Halloween H20, but for now, this will do.
