[The following contains spoilers for Halloween Kills]

Laurie Strode gets the bad news that Michael Myers is still alive in a newly released clip from Halloween Kills. Jamie Lee Curtis first played Strode all the way back in John Carpenter’s original 1978 slasher classic Halloween.

The low-budget first Halloween may indeed have seemed like a one-off deal to Curtis at the time. But the film would go on to be a massive hit and Curtis would quickly be called back to reprise the role of terrorized babysitter Strode in Halloween II. Curtis then received a long break from being menaced by Michael Myers, not returning to the franchise until 1998’s Halloween: H20. 2002’s Halloween: Resurrection brought Curtis back again, and that might have seemed like the last time she would ever have to appear in the franchise. But David Gordon Green had other ideas and in 2018’s Halloween reboot he called Curtis back for a direct sequel to the original movie. This time around, Strode was ready for Michael Myers, and in the movie’s fiery climax seemed to have ended the killer’s reign of terror forever.

But of course nothing cures movie death like huge box office success. So Michael Myers is indeed back for Halloween Kills, as is Curtis’ Laurie Strode. In a newly-released clip from the horror sequel, a hospitalized Strode finds out that Myers not only survived the fire at the end of Halloween 2018, he’s already back to his killing ways. The clip incidentally also includes a spoiler for Halloween Kills. As was previously revealed, several familiar characters from past Halloween movies return for the new film, some of them played by the actors who originated the roles in question. But at least one of these returning characters doesn’t last long, as in the clip Anthony Michael Hall’s Tommy Doyle (who was originally played by Brian Andrews) tells Laurie that Myers has killed Marion Chambers, a character originated in Halloween II and reprised in Halloween Kills by Nancy Stephens (who also played the role in Halloween: H20). Doyle also tells Strode that Myers attacked Lindsey, another character back from the original Halloween. Everyone just assumes that Myers will next come to the hospital to finish off Laurie, and Doyle promises to stay and protect her.

It remains to be seen if Tommy Doyle is successful in protecting Laurie from the vengeful Michael Myers. But it’s fair to assume that Doyle and everyone else in the hospital is in a lot of trouble as Myers continues terrorizing the people Haddonfield. Of course Myers is expected to survive the events of Halloween Kills, as the sequel Halloween Ends has already been announced. The same assurances can't be made about the various characters in Myers' way.
