Halloween Kills star, Anthony Michael Hall, explains the chances of his adaptation of Tommy Doyle returning for the film's sequel, Halloween Ends. After becoming the highest-grossing slasher film of all time, 2018's Halloween was quickly announced to be getting two sequels that would round off the newly-established trilogy with a satisfying end for both Michael Myers and Laurie Strode. Alongside Jamie Lee Curtis' return as Laurie, many characters from the original also made an appearance, including Tommy Doyle, Lindsey Wallace, Marion Chambers, Lonnie Elam, and Sheriff Brackett.

Halloween Kills saw the entirety of Haddonfield's residents finally stand up for themselves against the boogeyman and plan to stop Michael Myers once and for all. Leading the warpath were mainly Tommy, Karen, and Allyson, who each went up against Myers, with varying outcomes. While a plethora of characters, both new and returning, saw their demise at the hands of Myers, many audiences believe that despite what was shown, some may be able to make their return for next year's sequel release.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Anthony Michael Hall expressed his hopes and thoughts about returning for next year's sequel and shared his thoughts on Tommy's dramatic demise. Hall had this to say:

Well, maybe I should be a little coy about that. You never know what can happen, but I know it doesn’t look good for him. It doesn’t look good for him at all. I mean, it was kind of epic, but going back to high school English, it’s the classical tragedy. At least one person has to die, so it was a noble death, I think.

Throughout the interview, Hall also expressed his admiration towards director David Gordon Green and his ability to stay true to the original film and the 2018 film's established settings and characters. Furthermore, he shared his excitement and honor about working alongside franchise legends such as Jamie Lee Curtis, Kyle Richards, Nancy Stephens, and Charles Cyphers.

As seen during Halloween Kills, Tommy was savagely beaten to death by Michael, alongside franchise veterans Marion Chambers, Leigh Brackett, and Lonnie Elam, who all suffered bloody fates. Despite the heavily implied killing of these characters, however, camera angles throughout their scenes were very quick to cut away from showcasing their corpses. Due to this, many audiences believe that, without this final and fatal view of Michael's work, these characters could still have a chance at returning later.

With the open-ended answer offered by Anthony Michael Hall, there is still a slight possible chance that Halloween Kills is not the last we've seen of his Tommy Doyle. With Halloween Ends being the final entry in this saga of new films, it would be the perfect opportunity to give a final send-off to each of these iconic characters, both dead and alive, in some way, shape, or form. Whatever is being planned for the last outing of Michael Myers, audiences will have to wait in anticipation for Halloween Ends to release on October 14, 2022.
