The Halloween franchise has seen a couple of characters getting very close to finally killing Michael Myers, but he always finds a way to come back. With Halloween Ends closing the reboot trilogy, it’s expected to be the one that will finally kill Michael Myers, and here’s how he will eventually die. Although the Halloween franchise has gone through various retcons, Michael Myers has been a tough villain to defeat, either because there’s something supernatural about him or because the next movie retcons his supposed death, such as him changing places with other people as happened in Halloween: Resurrection.

Back in 1978, John Carpenter introduced the audience to Michael Myers in Halloween. On Halloween night, 1963, Michael Myers killed his older sister when he was six years old, and for that, he was sent to Smith Grove’s Sanitarium. Fifteen years later, on Halloween night 1978, Michael escaped and returned to his hometown Haddonfield, Illinois, and began stalking Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) and her friends, with Laurie becoming the main final girl of the franchise. Michael Myers has since encountered different people of which a couple have come close to finally killing him, but the Halloween franchise has kept him alive for years by making him supernatural, retconning endings, or having someone intervene at the last minute.

As mentioned above, the Halloween franchise has been retconned a couple of times, branching out the saga’s timeline, and the latest branch in the Halloween universe is the reboot trilogy. Starting in 2018 with David Gordon Green’s Halloween, the reboot timeline serves as a direct sequel to Carpenter’s original movie, ignoring all sequels and remakes that came after it. This means that, in this timeline, Laurie and Michael are not related, Jamie Lloyd (Danielle Harris) and John Tate (Josh Hartnett) don’t exist and Laurie was given a different family, and this has also given the writers a lot of freedom to change Michael Myers to make him a character even harder to kill. The final chapter in the trilogy, Halloween Ends, is expected to bring Laurie and Michael’s story to an end, and for that, Michael might finally die – and here’s how that will happen.

Every Time Michael Myers Was Nearly Shot In The Head

Michael Myers has been close to dying various times in the Halloween franchise. First, he was shot multiple times by Dr. Loomis (Donald Pleasence) in Carpenter’s Halloween and fell off a balcony, but he stood up and left seconds after falling; in Halloween II, he was shot in both eyes, survived an explosion, and walked through the flames; Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers saw him being hit by a truck and shot multiple times; in Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers he was beaten; next, in Halloween 6: The Curse of Michael Myers, he was beaten with a lead pipe and hanged.

The first retcon of the franchise, Halloween H20: 20 Years Later, saw Laurie finally killing Michael, but Halloween: Resurrection retconned this by explaining that the man in the Michael Myers mask that Laurie decapitated was actually a paramedic and the real Michael was alive, and he was electrocuted and burned, but rose again at the end. In the first of Rob Zombie’s Halloween remakes, Laurie (Scout Taylor-Compton) was about to shoot Michael when he grabbed her wrist and avoided being killed, and in the sequel, Halloween II, Michael was finally killed when Laurie stabbed him, though this came at the cost of her own sanity.

In the Halloween reboot trilogy, Michael has also been very close to being killed with a shot to the head, but there has always been someone keeping the characters away from ending Michael Myers. In Halloween 2018, Deputy Frank Hawkins (Will Patton) tried to shoot Michael after running him over but was stopped by Dr. Sartain (Haluk Bilginer), who stabbed him and left him for dead. Halloween Kills showed a flashback to Halloween night 1978, where Hawkins was about to shoot Michael and was stopped by Loomis, and back to the present day, Leigh Brackett (Charles Cyphers) was going to shoot Michael in the head after the residents of Haddonfield beat, kicked, and shot him, but he rose again despite all the injuries he should have had.

Halloween Ends Must Pay These Near Misses

With the characters in the Halloween reboot trilogy being very close to shooting Michael Myers in the head and finally killing him, it would be strange and disappointing if all these teases don’t pay off in Halloween Ends. Of course, given their history across different timelines, and after Michael killed her daughter, Karen (Judy Greer), in Halloween Kills, it would be best if Laurie was the one who finally shot and killed Michael Myers, but the reboot trilogy has set up Hawkins to be the one who puts an end to Michael’s reign of terror in Haddonfield. As mentioned above, Hawkins has been close to killing Michael twice, and on both occasions, he was stopped by Michael’s doctor at the time, so it would be a satisfying end if he was the one who pulled the trigger.

Given the events of Halloween and Halloween Kills, it would also make sense if the one who killed Michael Myers was Laurie’s granddaughter, Allyson (Andi Matichak), as Michael has not only terrorized her grandmother but he also killed her father, friends, boyfriend, and mother, so she could be given a chance to avenge them.

Halloween Ends May Confirm A Michael Myers Theory

Halloween kills how is michael myers still alive

While Halloween Ends hints at the conclusion of Michael Myers’ arc and therefore his death, the story could take a turn and instead confirm a theory that emerged as a result of the events of Halloween Kills. Michael Myers should have died after the mob attacked him as there was no way a person could survive being beaten, stabbed, and shot multiple times, but Michael rising again and killing everyone around him made way for the theory about him being supernatural… again. The Halloween franchise has already gone through that path when Halloween 6 explained that the reason for Michael’s evil and “immortality” was the Cult of Thorn, and this was retconned in Halloween H20. If Michael Myers really is supernatural again, then shooting him in the head is not going to be his end, and the way to finally get rid of him will depend on the reason why he’s supernatural. Halloween Ends has many questions to answer, and it’s to be seen if it will really be the end of Laurie and Michael’s story or if it will keep the door open for more killing sprees for Michael Myers.
