Screen legend Jamie Lee Curtis says that Halloween Ends, the final film in David Gordon Green’s new Halloween trilogy will “make people very angry.” Curtis, who began her film career playing babysitter Laurie Strode in John Carpenter’s original 1978 horror masterpiece, has recently returned to the role in Halloween Kills, a sequel to 2018’s Halloween. Produced by Blumhouse Studios in association with Malek Akkad and Bill Block, Green’s trilogy retroactively ignores all previous Halloween sequels and instead creates a new timeline set 40 years after the events of Carpenter’s original slasher.

Premiering at the 78th Venice International Film Festival, the second film in Green’s trilogy picks up minutes after the events depicted in the 2018 film, with Laurie seriously injured and Michael Myers trapped in her burning house. Continuing Green’s dedication to Carpenter’s original film, Halloween Kills also sees other 1978 cast members returning in the form of Kyle Richards, Nancy Stephens, and Charles Cyphers. With the second film being released this month, Michael Myers actor James Jude Courtney has also confirmed that filming is slated to begin on Halloween Ends in January next year ahead of its own October 2022 release.

With Curtis and the rest of the cast heavily involved in promotional interviews in the lead-up to the release of Halloween Kills, the actress recently spoke with The Illumnerdi about the trilogy’s next and final film. Calling it a “beautiful way to end this trilogy”, Curtis also suggested that Green’s planned ending will both “agitate” and “stimulate” audiences. In fact, she said it would make some people "very angry." Check out her full comments below:

"[David Gordon Green] sort of alluded to the third one, which is going to shock people. It’s going to make people very angry. It’s going to stimulate people. People are going to be agitated by it. And it is a beautiful way to end this trilogy. Now that’s all I kind of knew from David. Only recently have he and I started to talk a little bit post-Venice film festival a little bit about the movie, a couple little tweaks that I’ve offered, but very little that you know, this man makes great movies. I just have to stay out of the way."

Curtis’s comments certainly give fans of the franchise much to ponder, and exactly how Green intends to “agitate” and “surprise” audiences is not exactly clear. In a recent behind-the-scenes video for Halloween Kills, Green promised a “bigger, badder, nastier, crazier version” for his second outing, so it will certainly be interesting to see how he intends to dial up those plans for his upcoming conclusion. One thing fans do know about Green’s ideas for Halloween Ends, however, is that it would seem there will be a time jump between the second and third films, and the finale will see the characters living in the aftermath of the global COVID-19 pandemic.

What seems most likely is that the intimate connection between Curtis’ Laurie Strode and Michael Myers will need to come to a climactic conclusion at some point in the next film, and it’s highly unlikely that both characters will end up walking away alive at the end of it. Killing off Strode, or even more surprisingly, Michael Myers, will certainly be a “stimulating” way for Green to wrap up his trilogy. While Jason Blum has hinted that he would like to see more Halloween films to come after Halloween Ends, this does not necessarily prevent Green from killing off one or both of the franchise’s main characters in the next entry. In the meantime, fans can devour the trilogy’s second outing this spooky season when Halloween Kills hits screens.
