The novelization for Halloween Ends has provided a glimpse into other characters infected by Michael Myers' evil. Halloween Ends faced a mass backlash following its release due to its focus being on a new killer, Corey Cunningham. In the film, Corey is ostracized by Haddonfield after a young boy he is babysitting tragically dies, leading the town to label Corey as the new boogeyman. Eventually, Corey crosses paths with Michael Myers, who infects Corey with his evil, leading Corey to become the boogeyman Haddonfield painted him out to be.

Corey Cunningham's role as Michael's apprentice garnered a lot of criticism for Halloween Ends. For many viewers, this plot line didn't make much sense and misunderstands what was known about Michael Myers. However, the Halloween Ends novelization, written by Paul Brad Logan, explains Michael's ability to infect others with his evil. In 1982, Dr. Loomis tells Laurie that a patient at Smith's Grove, Carl, killed himself and the guards after being moved closer to Michael's cell, explaining that Carl's condition made it easier for Michael's evil to plague his mind. As the novel continues, it outlines another time in which Michael's evil has infected someone, however, this time is far more sinister.

During a flashback to 2018, Michael is shown arriving at a cabin after killing two garbage men and stealing their truck straight after the events of Halloween Kills. The cabin is occupied by an abusive father who has kidnapped his 10-year-old daughter after losing visitation rights. It's further emphasized during this interaction that Michael doesn't attack those who do not fear him, and instead, Michael supernaturally plagues their mind with evil after glaring into their eyes. The young girl uses Michael's knife to brutally kill her father before burning him. However, unlike Corey, it's implied Michael then kills the young girl.

Why The Girl In The Cabin Could've Helped Halloween Ends

Halloween Ends never bothered to explain how Michael influences Corey in the film. While it implies that Michael recognizes a kinship in Corey, it is a far cry from any interaction Michael has had before on-screen. Therefore, it would have been beneficial to use the girl in the cabin from the Halloween Ends novelization to further explain the connection between Michael and Corey. The interaction between the young girl and Michael shows that he has a pattern of infecting individuals who have been wronged and already feel a lot of anger.

Additionally, it also adds more weight to Laurie's claim that evil changes shape, which explains the immortal aspect of Michael Myers. At the end of the Halloween Ends novelization, it's implied Laurie has fallen victim to Michael's evil after staring him in the eyes before killing him, resulting in a significant change from the film as she then isolates herself and deletes her memoir. Therefore, the Halloween Ends novel provides an exciting cliffhanger and explains away the film's biggest plot holes, as Michael's mask awaits a new shape.
