Halloween Ends will be the end of the Halloween franchise’s reboot trilogy, and it’s said to be an ending not many people will agree with, and a tease related to another John Carpenter movie might reveal why, as Allyson could kill Laurie. Among the current trends in the film industry are reboots and “requels”, and these have been especially common in the horror genre. One of the biggest examples of these is the Halloween saga, which has been rebooted with a new trilogy that, once more, retconned the franchise.

The Halloween franchise began in 1978 with John Carpenter’s movie of the same name, which introduced the audience to serial killer Michael Myers, who was sent to Smith’s Grove Sanitarium after killing his older sister when he was six years old. Michael escaped 15 years later and returned to Haddonfield, Illinois, where he began to stalk Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) and her friends. Laurie became Halloween’s final girl, but since then, the franchise has gone through different retcons, remakes, and now a reboot, and Laurie hasn’t always been the only final girl.

The Halloween reboot trilogy introduced Laurie’s daughter, Karen (Judy Greer), and granddaughter, Allyson (Andi Matichak), who joined her fight against Michael after his return to Haddonfield in 2018. Although the trilogy is a continuation of Carpenter’s original movie and thus ignores all the sequels, it has referenced all those movies in different ways, and this, along with a tease linked to another Carpenter movie, could be pointing at Allyson killing Laurie in Halloween Ends.

Halloween Ends Is Influenced By Christine

Speaking to Empire in October 2021, Halloween director David Gordon Green spoke about his plans for Halloween Ends, explaining it’s a “more intimate movie” and even called it “kind of a coming-of-age film”. Green also spoke about honoring Carpenter with Halloween Ends and mentioned Christine as an influence, even telling Carpenter when sending him a draft that if it felt “too Christine” to let him know. Christine is a supernatural horror movie directed by John Carpenter in 1983 and based on the novel of the same name by Stephen King.

Christine follows teenager Arnie Cunningham who buys a used, dilapidated 1958 Plymouth Fury from an old man named Rolan LeBay. The car’s name is “Christine”, and as Arnie begins to restore it, he also starts to change: he stops wearing his glasses, his acne clears up, he starts dressing like a 1950s greaser, and becomes arrogant, humorless, and cynical. Christine turns out to have a mind of its own and to be linked to various tragedies, it has a possessive personality, and it ends up possessing Arnie. Exactly what influenced Green when working on the Halloween Ends script is unknown, but Christine could reveal a twist that links to Michael Myers being supernatural and to a storyline from one of the now-ignored sequels.

Halloween Kills Made Michael Myers Supernatural Again

Halloween-Kills-Michael-Myers-ending

Halloween Kills picks up right after the end of Halloween (2018) and reunites viewers with Laurie, Karen, and Allyson after they trapped Michael in Laurie’s home and burned it down. Michael escaped, killed the firefighters, and returned to Haddonfield to continue his killing spree. A mob is formed in Haddonfield led by Tommy Doyle (Anthony Michael Hall) and with Lindsey Wallace (Kyle Richards) and Marion Chambers (Nancy Stephens) taking part in it, but just as the townspeople seemed to have defeated Michael, Halloween Kills took a turn. Tommy’s mob beat, kicked, stabbed, and shot Michael Myers multiple times, but seconds later, Michael recovered, stood up, and killed the entire mob. This made Michael Myers supernatural again, which is one of the most criticized elements of the Halloween franchise as the first time it was done, his story got so tangled that it made no sense and ultimately made Michael not frightening or threatening anymore. With Michael Myers being supernatural again, that opens many doors for Halloween Ends, and his upcoming actions could lean more towards that side of his story.

Halloween Ends Is Said To Make Many People Angry

Halloween

Halloween Kills wasn’t the exciting sequel that was expected after the success of Halloween, with most criticism aimed at the story and its unoriginality, and going back to past elements that didn’t work at first (such as Michael being supernatural) only added to the failure of Halloween Kills – but if this one angered the audience, Halloween Ends will reportedly take it a step further. Speaking to NME in October 2021, Jamie Lee Curtis said Halloween Ends will “blow people’s minds open” but it also will “make people very angry” and be “shocking because it asks a lot of questions”, and Michael Myers actor Nick Castle reportedly said at a convention that the movie will have a “surprise” ending. Of course, there are many ways Halloween Ends could go in order to make its audience angry, especially after the disappointment of Halloween Kills, but taking into account the events of the latter, Michael being supernatural again, and the influence of Christine, Halloween Ends could make people angry by repeating an old storyline of possession.

Theory: Michael Possesses Allyson & She Kills Laurie

Halloween Kills Allyson

Taking into account the “possession” part of Christine, Michael Myers being linked to something supernatural that keeps him from dying, and the many references to past Halloween sequels in the reboot trilogy, Halloween Ends could repeat the twist in Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers and have Michael possess Allyson. In Halloween 4, Laurie was replaced by her daughter, Jamie Lloyd (Danielle Harris), as Michael’s target, and right at the end, Jamie stabbed her adoptive mother, much to the horror of Dr. Loomis and her family. It was explained in Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers that Jamie was possessed by her uncle, as they had a telepathic link.

Now, Michael Myers is supernatural again, and while the details behind this are unknown (as in, it’s unclear if the Cult of Thorn is involved or it’s something else), this makes way for many possibilities in Halloween Ends, including possession. Allyson is now a perfect target as Michael killed her mother in Halloween Kills and she could very well end up as the franchise’s new final girl, and while she’s not related to Michael in any way, Michael might have the ability to possess her. Perhaps Michael will finally be severely wounded and unable to continue, but he will have enough strength to possess someone else and keep killing through that person. Allyson, then, could be possessed by Michael Myers in Halloween Ends, killing Laurie in the process and thus adding even more to Allyson's revenge against Michael, who would have killed everyone she loved by then.

Will Allyson Also Be The One Who Kills Michael Myers?

Allyson being possessed by Michael Myers in Halloween Ends could also mean that she knows what his weaknesses are, and she could use this valuable information to finally get rid of him. Once she realizes that she killed her grandmother under the influence and manipulation of Michael Myers, Allyson could go after him and really hurt him in ways no one could have known but that were revealed to her thanks to him taking over her mind and body – and so Allyson will truly be Halloween’s final girl, as she would be the one who finally killed Michael Myers. Of course, recycling yet another past Halloween storyline for the reboot trilogy’s end would infuriate the audience, more so as it would see the death of Laurie Strode, but if done right, it could be an interesting ending that could even make up for the mistakes of Halloween Kills and give proper closure to this part of the Halloween franchise.
