Pokémon GO's twelfth Season of the GO Battle League is hosting its third annual Halloween Cup. With two formats in the 1500 Combat Power and 2500 Combat Power (CP) range, the event began on October 20th, 2022, and will end on November 3rd, 2022, local time. Simultaneously with Pokémon GO's Great Battle League (GBL) format available to trainers, the 1500 CP Halloween Cup will run from October 20th to October 27th. In the second week of the event, the Ultra Battle League (UBL) and the 2500 CP Halloween Cup will begin on October 27th, 2022, and end on November 3rd, 2022.

The GBL is limited to Pokémon under 1500 CP, UBL is limited to Pokémon under 2500 CP, and only Bug-, Dark-, Fairy, Ghost-, and Poison-types are allowed. Dual-type Pokémon are typically used during this event as an exception to the rule. The rules of the Halloween Cup are similar to previous years, except now it includes a UBL format for the second week of the event. For players participating this season in the Halloween Cup, selecting certain Pokémon increases their chance of winning more rewards. With five available types, dual-type Pokémon, diverse moves, and counter strategies are the best way to participate in the Halloween Cup.

Pokemon Go Halloween Cup 2022

According to PvPoke.com, the strategy behind winning battles comes with using the right moves and thinking of type advantages. For example, the viable Venomoth in Pokémon GO, a Bug- and Poison- type, can use the Psychic-type move Confusion and make it strong against Poison- types, like Nidoqueen and Toxapex. In addition, Dedenne, introduced last year during the first Season of Light, is one of the few Electric-type Pokémon with the same type of attack bonus Electric-type moves that easily can trump dual Flying- or Water- types, like Mandibuzz or Azumarill.

Teams to Use for the Halloween Cup

Countering weaknesses can be done by choosing a balanced team for both the GBL and the UBL. Common trends include at least a Fairy-type move, a Flying- dual-type, and a Poison-type. For example, a great team would be the Normal-/Fairy-type Wigglytuff, the Dark-/Flying-type Mandibuzz, and Pokémon GO's Ground-/Poison-type Nidoqueen. With three Pokémon having dual-typing and many moves, super-effectiveness is minimized. A different trend on a team would be unique types that cannot be used as stated in the rules. Rock-, Steel-, and Flying-types are not allowed in the Halloween Cup unless they have another type that qualifies. Examples of more Pokémon to use for a team would be Crustle, Mawile, and Golbat.

Rewards for the Halloween Cup

For Pokémon encounters starting at rank 1, Meditite, the pre-evolution of Medicham, is an extremely valuable Pokémon to catch. For rank 6-11+, Frillish, Skarmory, and Lickitung are great beginnings to a viable GBL team. Rank level 20+ this Halloween Season includes Giratina in its Altered Form, which has a shiny chance. If players have difficulty finding people to do Raid Battles with, it is highly advised to get to rank 20 as soon as possible to not miss out on this legendary reward.

Pokémon GO's third Halloween Cup is in the game and underway. From October 20th to November 3rd, using type-advantageous strategies will secure wins for players participating in this event. Dual-typing and super-effective moves are to be kept in mind as the rules limit certain Pokémon. Additionally, players will want to get a higher ranking to catch the legendary Giratina and become stronger.
