Body horror made another comeback as the upcoming survival horror game ILL left a lasting impression at the end of the 2022 Future Games Show livestream. With its gameplay and design taking inspiration from games such as Resident Evil while adding a unique spin, it's one of the many highly anticipated games waiting to be released.

There are a lot of horror games waiting to be released. However, not all of them are planned to be released in 2022, and the wait can be agonizing when it's a game someone really wants to play. Luckily, there are a lot of great free horror games to play, with plenty of them having a multiplayer option, and just in time too for Halloween.

Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodhunt (2022)

Vampires have always been a popular horror monster figure. While not all have them used for terrifying purposes, there are still plenty of moments where they have been used to terrify or intimidate audiences or players. Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodhunt is an excellent example of one such game.

Since there hasn't been any word on the Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines sequel due to disconnecting with Hardsuit Labs, players have taken to playing the free online multiplayer VTM Bloodhunt. Bloodhunt is a battle royale style game where players jump into the action of the war between vampire fractions. It has great graphics and many attributes that fans of the franchise love, such as the supernatural powers used for hunting, something that, hopefully soon, fans will be able to use in Bloodlines 2.

No More Room In Hell (2011)

Like vampires, zombies are a classic horror monster icon that remains a fan favorite. Since this is the case, there are plenty of fun zombie games out there to play.

Among the many scary FPS zombie games, No Room In Hell takes inspiration from George Romero's zombie films and places players in a more "realistic" setting, meaning players can get infected. Players who are bitten are infected and can either attack their uninfected teammates or warn them to take them down. The best part about this is that a second game is coming out on an unspecified date this October.

Dark Deception (2018)

When someone thinks about horror, cute isn't exactly the first thing that comes to mind. While this depends on the player's definition of cute, there are quite a few players who think that the twisted creatures of Dark Deception have a certain amount of cute charm to them.

Dark Deception is a story-driven first-person horror game with plenty of mazes and fast-paced classic arcade games. Players take on the role of either the monsters or mortals and must fight for soul shards that are hidden within the horrifying mazes. The only "downside" to this game is if players want more content, they will have to pay for the other four chapters, which are $6.99 each.

As part of the zombie craze, there are other games similar to No More Room In Hell, such as the strategic zombie game called Zombie Panic! Source. The game is a fast-paced first-person shooter that allows players to play either the human or the zombie.

The co-op horror game provides an arsenal of weapons and the option to barricade or face the horde head-on. At the same time, players who take on the role of the undead do what they do best. It's a fun free game that gives that somewhat "realistic" experience of how one might try to fight off the undead.

Many players prefer a game with strategic gameplay. Codename CURE adds a bit of strategic gameplay with plenty of bloodshed and action alongside it. Following the zombie craze, Codename CURE is a first-person cooperative zombie game that allows up to five players to join.

It is a very fast-paced game with players playing as a team of special military operatives tasked with what the game calls "curing" the infected area. There are also five classes that players can choose from that adds to military-style gameplay. These classes consist of pointman, support, assault, technician, and sniper.

Cry Of Fear (2013)

There are a variety of horrific creatures shown throughout the horror genre, and there are a lot of games that provide this kind of content. For those who want not only a horrifying experience with monstrous creatures but also get the opportunity to play a multiplayer psychological horror, Cry of Fear is the game to play.

Known for being one of the scariest free games available, Cry of Fear has eight hours of single-player fun and allows four players to play at a time. There are multiple endings with 20 different unlockables plus 24 unique weapons. The game focuses on immersion and lateral thinking while providing a cinematic experience while taking on the monsters on the streets of Fäversholm.

Get Stuffed! (2021)

Cute creatures combined with horrifying circumstances can be a lot of fun to use as a concept in a game. Like Dark Deception, the game Get Stuffed! has some adorable characters and horror elements that add plenty of humorous and fun gameplay.

Get Stuffed! is an asymmetrical multiplayer horror game where up to 16 players are tasked with trying to kill, deceive, or escape by playing the roles of killer, antagonist, or victim, with each role having a unique way of winning. While this isn't one of the scariest first-person horror games out there, it is a lot of fun to play.

SCP: Secret Laboratory (2017)

The paranormal is one of the most popular horror tropes seen in books, movies, and games. Many excellent games have used it and ended up being very successful. SCP: Secret Laboratory is one of the many that have found success among players.

As one of the favorite subgenres in horror, survival horror has been a fan favorite for years. One of the many games that are available among the many scary and free games to play this Halloween that falls under the survival horror category is Deceit.

What many players enjoy about Deceit is that it has the players trust their instincts and trust in the action-packed first-person shooter. This game allows six players to join in trying to defeat the deadly virus that has begun to affect others.
