Halloween Ends will be much more personal than its predecessor, Halloween Kills. 2018's Halloween revitalized the long-running horror franchise, retconning the films that had come before it to make a direct sequel to the 1978 original. Jamie Lee Curtis returned as a PTSD-stricken Laurie Strode. The film followed her as she grappled with the trauma leftover from that horrifying night in her youth. Halloween also explored generational trauma themes and how people can pass their past horrors onto their children and grandchildren.

Part of a planned trilogy, Halloween will see two sequels come out in 2021 and 2022. Halloween Kills, initially slated for October 2020, was pushed back to 2021 because of the coronavirus pandemic. Halloween Ends, the conclusion to the trilogy, was subsequently pushed back to 2022. Green has steadily teased what's in store for Laurie Strode, her daughter, and granddaughter, played by Judy Greer and Andi Matichak, respectively, and a teaser gave viewers a glimpse at the carnage to come.

Now, Green has said that Halloween Ends will be much more personal than its predecessor. Green spoke to Total Film about the upcoming sequel, indicating that it is much more action-packed because it takes place directly after the events of the 2018 film. Green says they wanted Halloween Kills to be an explosive middle entry before bringing it back to a more personal story with the third and final film.

When we made the last one we wanted to find a way for someone who’s never seen the original to get up to speed with the story. But this one gets right to the action. It’s very aggressive. It’s more efficient. We wanted it to be an explosive middle before things get streamlined and personal again.

Curtis has already said that Halloween Kills will be a timely masterpiece, indicating the larger themes at play of social media and mass hysteria. With the second film taking place directly after the first, there will not be much time to develop the trilogy's central characters further. Luckily, 2018's Halloween did enough of that, exploring the complicated relationship between Laurie Strode and her extended family. Much of the film's plot was focused on her daughter and granddaughter not buying into her hysteria.

Of course, Laurie was proven right when Michael Meyers escaped from the asylum and went after her yet again. While the second film may not have time for more personal stories, the third film will surely bring the trilogy to a fitting end. It's possible we could even see Michael finally killing Laurie Strode, just before her granddaughter kills him once and for all. Halloween Ends' title certainly teases a definitive ending. While a producer has said that plans beyond the trilogy are uncertain, everybody knows that Michael Meyers has a knack for returning from the dead.
