Halle Berry is set to star in the upcoming thriller film Mother Land. Berry has led some impressive projects in the past couple of years, as 2020 saw the actor both star in and make her directorial debut with Netflix's Bruised. Soon after its debut, Bruised became number one on the streamer's most-watched list and was largely praised by critics. Last year, Berry took on a leading role in Roland Emmerich's latest disaster movie Moonfall alongside Patrick Wilson.

Now, as reported by Deadline, Berry will star in Mother Land, which is currently in development at the studio behind acclaimed sci-fi film Arrival and Netflix's hit series Stranger Things. The story of Mother Land centers around a mother (Berry) and her twin sons, who have been plagued by an evil spirit for years. When one of the boys questions the existence of the spirit, Berry's matriarch finds her family's bond "broken," and the thriller "turns into a fight for survival." Crawl director Alexandre Aja has come on board to direct the film, with the script being penned by Kevin Coughlin and Ryan Grassby. Shawn Levy, Dan Cohen, and Dan Levine will produce the project under 21 Laps, with Berry and Aja also acting as co-producers.

Perhaps best known for her major franchise roles (after playing Storm in the X-Men films and later DC's Catwoman), Berry has certainly kept herself busy in recent years with a variety of interesting projects. The actor is soon set to head yet another Netflix movie titled The Mothership, which is currently undergoing post-production. However, a team-up with the experienced horror filmmaker Aja for this new thriller will undoubtedly entice audiences, and they can likely expect a unique turn from the Oscar-winning actress when Mother Land eventually makes its debut. More details about the film are expecting in the coming months.
