A fan of Valve’s popular VR title Half-Life: Alyx has recently released a Jurassic Park mod for the game, which remakes the 1998 PC title Trespasser. Released in 2020, Half-Life: Alyx saw Valve’s return to the Half-Life franchise, which was left stagnant since the release of Episode Two in 2007. Since the release of Alyx, fans eager for more content have turned to the Steam Workshop, releasing countless mods to enhance their experience in the VR world.

Jurassic Park: Trespasser is an action-adventure PC game set after the events of the second movie, The Lost World: Jurassic Park, and is considered a sequel to the film. The game was received negatively by critics and was considered a failure commercially, selling approximately 50,000 copies. While critics felt the dinosaurs and the world were visually stunning, this was countered by clunky mechanics, which included using the player character’s arm to interact with objects with frustrating clumsiness.

As first reported by GameRant, the Trespasser VR mod, made by Steam user Stevokenevo, is in an early stage of development, only featuring the first two levels of the game. Currently, the levels have placeholder graphics, and some simple puzzles, which harken back to the original Trespasser’s box moving puzzles - albeit much easier thanks to the ability to use two arms instead of the original game’s use of just one. Of course, the mod is not just an empty world with a bunch of boxes, as there are in fact raptors inhabiting it that will stalk and hunt the player.

Aside from that, there is also a hidden easter egg in the second level of the mod which is a nod to the original Trespasser game, and a secret weapon mod can be found by completing a specific puzzle. Fans of the 1998 Trespasser will no doubt be excited to experience the game in a completely new way, and for those going into the mod as Alyx players, it will definitely be a new experience to see such a vast open-world map.

Since the Trespasser mod is still a very early build and being worked on by just one modder - it can be expected that updates to the mod will be a slow process. Stevokenevo reiterates that they are still learning the ropes of modding and would welcome contributors to help develop the rest of the mod. Despite that, the two levels available show plenty of potential, as the gameplay for the Jurassic Park game seems to mesh well and is enhanced by the mechanics of Half-Life: Alyx. No doubt with a bit of help, the mod will be able to become the game Stevokenevo envisioned. For those left wanting more from Half-Life: Alyx, the thriving modding community has got fans covered, with over 800 add-ons currently available.
