Valve has released the first trailer for Half-Life Alyx, which is an upcoming VR game set in the Half-Life universe that will be released in March 2020. Half-Life: Alyx was recently announced following months of rumors regarding a secret Half-Life VR game that was being developed by Valve for the Steam platform.

The Half-Life series has been dormant since the release of Half-Life 2: Episode Two back in 2007. Gabe Newell has teased the idea of Half-Life 3 being in development for years now, but there was never any concrete proof that the game had ever entered production. Everything changed on November 18, when the official Valve Twitter account announced that Half-Life: Alyx was in development and would be a flagship VR title.

The first Half-Life: Alyx trailer has been uploaded to Valve's YouTube channel and it revealed the title will be a full-fledged Half-Life game set between the events of Half-Life and Half-Life 2. Alyx Vance is the main character of the game, as Gordon Freeman is still being held in captivity by the G-Man at this point in the story. The trailer shows Alyx on a mission to save her father from capture. Alyx will use a special version of the Gravity Gun that is operated by her gloves, which will allow her to interact with her environment and grab objects from afar. The trailer shows several returning monsters from the Half-Life series, including Headcrabs and the Combine soldiers. The trailer ends with a cameo from the G-Man and the reveal that the game will be released in March 2020.

The official Half-Life website has also been updated with new information about the game. Half-Life: Alyx will be compatible with the HTC Vive, Oculus Rift, Oculus Quest, Windows Mixed Reality, and Valve Index headsets. The people who own a Valve Index headset will receive Half-Life: Alyx for free. The website breaks down the different options that are available for Half-Life: Alyx, which will allow the player to experience the game in a number of different positions and controller styles, as well as changing how Alyx moves for maximum comfort.

The Half-Life fans have waited a long time for the next entry in the series, as it has been over a decade since Half-Life 2: Episode Three was announcedHalf-Life: Alyx might not be the Half-Life 3 that fans have been expecting, but it marks a revival for the series that could eventually lead to the return of Gordon Freeman.
