We had the opportunity to interview the film's star, Guy Pearce, about playing a classic action hero in Lockout as well as a bit on his work in Prometheus.
Lockout is set in an imagined future where high-risk prisoners are sent to a maximum security prison in space - and put into hypersleep for the duration of their sentence. The President's daughter (Maggie Grace) travels to the prison on a humanitarian mission when all goes haywire - the prisoners awaken and she finds herself the captive of some very dangerous men. Enter Snow (Pearce), a man who has been wrongly accused of a crime and now has one opportunity to free himself: break into the prison and save the President's daughter.
The film is an unabashed throwback to the one-liner rich action movies of the '80s and Snow - a wise-cracking, butt-kicking, strait talker - is dropped into a world that doesn't take itself too seriously. We talked to the actor about the appeal of playing the character in Lockout and the benefits of setting the story in the sci-fi genre.
Of course, we'd be crazy if we didn't also get the actor to touch on director Ridley Scott's Prometheus. Peace makes a brief appearance as Peter Weyland - the founder of the nefarious Weyland-Yutani Corporation that is responsible for so many of the horrific events in the Alien franchise. We spoke to Pearce about the tone of the film as well as working with Scott - who, Pearce informs us, creates an incredibly comfortable work environment on set.
