Karen Gillan’s Gunpowder Milkshake movie is now set to release on Netflix. Directed by Navot Papushado, Gunpowder Milkshake concerns three generations of female assassins trying to end a long cycle of violence over the course of a single action-packed night. The movie’s female-centric cast also includes Angela Bassett, Carla Gugino, Lena Headey, Michelle Yeoh, Chloe Coleman and Paul Giamatti.

Recently released first-look images from Gunpowder Milkshake afforded audiences a glimpse at many of its cast members, including Gillan, who plays the movie’s central character Eva. As reported by Deadline, the action heavy movie from STX Entertainment has now been picked up by Netflix for North American distribution after an intense bidding war. And hopes are high for the film as a sequel is already in development. The movie is set to arrive in summer 2021.

It will indeed be a busy summer for Netflix on the movie release front, as the streamer is already set to drop an array of films. That roster includes Liam Neeson’s latest action thriller The Ice Road, the animated sequel Trollhunters: Rise of the Titans, the highly-anticipated Kissing Booth 3, Jason Momoa’s revenge film Sweet Girl, John David Washington and Alicia Vikander’s Beckett, the gender-flipped remake He’s All That and many others. By adding yet another action-heavy movie to their release slate in Gunpowder Milkshake, Netflix has positioned itself as a legitimate alternative for movie fans who aren’t quite ready to get back to the theaters as the COVID pandemic finally eases, but would prefer to stay at home and catch some fun popcorn movies. Netflix of course is not the only choice for audiences who prefer streaming, as HBO Max and Disney+ have both gotten heavily into the game with their strategy of releasing films at home and in theaters simultaneously.
