The fantasy series Tales of Arcadia will be concluding with a new feature-length film called Trollhunters: Rise of the Titans. The animated series from DreamWorks and Netflix is a special project by award-winning filmmaker Guillermo del Toro. The director is most well known for his work on live-action fantasy dramas like The Shape of Water and Pan’s Labyrinth, but has been working on Tales of Arcadia at DreamWorks for some time.

Trollhunters: Tales of Arcadia is just one of three series in a trilogy from del Toro. They tell the story of a small town called Arcadia that’s secretly full of magic. Trollhunters ended in 2018, but gave way to other creative followup shows set in the same town. While the primary series focuses on the world of the trolls, there were a huge variety of magical creatures to be explored. The second series, 3Below: Tales of Arcadia, is about aliens stranded in the town. Meanwhile, Wizards: Tales of Arcadia, which was just released on Netflix this week, is about the battle for control over Arcadia’s magical power.

Both DreamWorks Animation and Netflix announced today they will be wrapping up del Toro’s story with an original feature-length film coming to the streaming platform in 2021. The film will act as the conclusion of the Trollhunters: Tales of Arcadia series. Called Trollhunters: Rise of the Titans, it will feature an all-star voice cast with big names like Kelsey Grammer, Emile Hirsch, Steven Yeun, Diego Luna, and Nick Offerman. They also released a teaser trailer for the movie on the Wizards: Tales of Arcadia Twitter account, which can be viewed below:

As the teaser for Trollhunters: Rise of the Titans suggests, the new movie won’t just be a finale for Trollhunters, but will combine all three of the Tales of Arcadia series for one big crossover event. This means viewers will get to see aliens, trolls, and wizards all interacting together for one giant, final adventure. It should result in an exciting story that serves as the perfect bookend to the series.

There’s also the question of just what this new movie will look like. Since Trollhunters was directly inspired by Amblin films of the 1980s, it’s likely the new movie will stick to that same nostalgic aesthetic. Audiences will also likely see the return of Jim Lake Jr. and some of the other Trollhunters characters, which is great news for long-time fans. Tales of Arcadia is a sprawling world with years of history, and it seems only fitting that Trollhunters: Rise of the Titans brings back all the pieces for one epic final conclusion.
