Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 has officially been certified fresh on Rotten Tomatoes today, with only a few more days left until its released in theaters. By any all standards, this year has more than its fair share of highly anticipated sequels and blockbuster titles set to be released by the time December 31 rolls around, with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 sitting right near the top of that list. Written and directed by James Gunn, the film is the long-awaited follow-up to Marvel's 2014 smash hit, picking up just a few months after the events of the first with the Guardians out for hire, solving problems for various planets and races throughout the galaxy.

Things are quickly thrown into chaos, though, when one of the Guardians' scorned clients comes after them seeking vengeance, and Peter Quill's (Chris Pratt) biological father, Ego (Kurt Russell), shows up out of nowhere with the promise to answer all of his most burning questions.

Coming off of a steady stream of impressive trailers and marketing materials for the film, Rotten Tomatoes has officially labeled Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 as certified fresh. With 78 fresh reviews and 11 negative reviews counted, the film is currently sitting at 88% on the website, which is subject to possible change as more last-minute reviews come in. While Guardians probably didn't need any more positive early hype going for it, this should help to amp up excitement for even most pessimistic of fans out there.

Guardians Galaxy 2 Trailer Discussion

For comparison's sake, this 88% rating puts Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 somewhere in the middle section of Marvel movies, in terms of just its rating. It's lower than Iron Man (94%), The Avengers (92%), Captain America: The Winter Soldier (89%), Captain America: Civil War (90%), Doctor Strange (90%), and is notably lower than the 91% that the first Guardians of the Galaxy scored.

But that's also fairly in line with the early reviews that have come out about the film, most of which have taken the time to say it's not nearly as good as its predecessor, but still another worthwhile outing from Marvel Studios. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is also the second comic book movie out of many to actually hit theaters so far this year, and while it's not as critically beloved as 20th Century Fox's Logan (92%) was, it's still an incredibly impressive start for 2017's blockbuster season, which only promises to get even busier and more chaotic in the coming months.
