Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn is joining a quarantine watch party for his hit 2014 film. Gunn introduced Marvel fans to the Guardians in his first MCU film and turned the ragtag group into household names. Guardians of the Galaxy seemed to prove the might of the MCU by centering a film on lesser-known comic book characters and still drawing audiences in. Gunn directed the 2017 follow-up, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2and while he was temporarily removed from the third installment, he was later reinstated as the writer and director. Fans are excited to see how Gunn will bring his three-film story to a close with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which has yet to nab a release date.

Part of that could be because of the coronavirus pandemic that is stalling progress across the entertainment industry. While Marvel announced a fresh Phase Four release calendar last Friday, Vol. 3 wasn't included. However, Gunn is largely expected to begin work on it once he completes his DC film The Suicide Squad, which he is still editing from home. Plus, with the Guardians possibly appearing in Thor: Love and Thunder, there's a chance Marvel isn't expecting to focus on Vol. 3 for a long, long time.

In the meantime, Gunn will look back on where it all started. He has agreed to participate in a quarantine watch party of Guardians of the Galaxy tomorrow, April 7, at 9 PM EST. The event is being hosted by ComicBook.com, which has led several watch parties throughout the last few weeks. It's simple: Fans will queue up the movie in their own homes, press play at exactly 9 PM EST, and tweet alongside others watching the film. Gunn's participation will only make it more fun. You can see Gunn's promise to join the party below:

Gunn isn't the only director to participate in recent watch parties. Shazam director David F. Sandberg live-tweeted one last week, and Zack Snyder hosted a live commentary of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice days before. With so many people stuck at home seeking entertainment, directors have been willing to share new tidbits about their films in a show of support for those watching them.

Gunn has always been very willing to communicate with fans, so it's not surprising he's happy to join a quarantine watch party. In the past few weeks, he's shared his own quarantine watch list, teases about The Suicide Squad, and his very dire toilet paper situation. Fans who enjoy hearing Gunn talk about his work should be sure to hop online tomorrow night and watch Guardians of the Galaxy along with him.
