Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy comic book series is coming to an end. The series will wrap with Guardians of the Galaxy #150, a story that will herald the return of fan-favorite hero, Adam Warlock. Though the comic is ending, the stories currently being set up will be allowed to unfold in brand-new titles.

As part of the Marvel Legacy relaunch, Guardians of the Galaxy was renumbered with issue #146 and was noted for introducing Ant-Man (Scott Lang) as the latest Earth hero to join the Guardians. It was later announced that #150 would be the first part of a storyline titled, "The Return of Adam Warlock", which would see the Golden Gladiator cross paths with his former teammates. The story was expected to somehow tie in with the Infinity Stones.

Writer Gerry Duggan announced on Twitter that the series would end with #150 in order to tell an even bigger story (see his post below). Prior to the announcement, Guardians of the Galaxy #151 was included in Marvel's solicits for February 2018. The solicits have since been updated to replace the issue with Infinity Countdown: Prime #1 and Infinity Countdown: Adam Warlock #1. Both stories will be written by Duggan, who says he pitched the stories to Marvel. Duggan's post also included a classic picture of Adam Warlock unleashing the power of the Soul Stone.

Folks, Guardians Of The Galaxy IS wrapping at #150, but it's because I pitched a story to @Marvel that was way bigger than just Guardians. HUGE stories are coming your way beginning in February. More soon. pic.twitter.com/f4OQX1vGMf— Gerry Duggan (@GerryDuggan) December 5, 2017

What we gather from the updated February solicits is that Infinity Countdown: Adam Warlock will see Warlock on a quest to obtain the Soul Stone. In an interesting partnership, classic Avengers villain Kang the Conqueror will serve as Warlock's guide. Since this is one of the two stories set to replace the Guardians of the Galaxy series, it's possible that Star-Lord and his team will guest-star in the title.

For weeks, Marvel has been teasing an important event surrounding the Infinity Stones. Whatever it is, it's somehow connected with the return of Wolverine. After being resurrected in Marvel Legacy #1, Wolverine is now carrying the Space Stone. Marvel has released a teaser image which shows Star-Lord and Captain Marvel wielding the Power and Reality Stones alongside Wolverine. If Guardians of the Galaxy #150 and Infinity Countdown are any indication, Adam Warlock will be joining them as one of the protectors of the Infinity Stones.
