'Guardians of the Galaxy' Interview: Zoe Saldana Sees No End To Nebula

Screen Rant chats with 'Guardians of the Galaxy' star Zoe Saldana about about her adopted sister Nebula and future movies.

Zoe Saldana - Guardians of the Galaxy Video Interview

Zoe Saldana is no stranger to the big budget sci-fi/fantasy film experience. With two hugely successful franchises under her belt, Avatar and Star Trek, one might assume that the experience of making said genre films is old hat for the actress but that is not the case, especially when it comes to her latest movie and potential third franchise, Guardians of the Galaxy.

We sat down with Saldana recently to discuss what makes watching Guardians different from other films, her character Gamora's complicated relationship with her sinister relatives and why she is excited about the fact that if all goes according to plan (aka box office success) we'll probably never see the end of Nebula and/or Karen Gillan.

So what was your experience like watching the movie for the first time?

I love it. I was so excited, but like an 11-year-old. My niece was next to me and so was her friend and i felt like i was their age and they were completely hooked and i was so proud. Esp waiting for certain moments, 'What about this moment? It's coming up next, just wait for it!' and 'Oh my God it's awesome.' And then looking at James and just going, 'Yes yes yes!' It was great, it was exciting.

How would you describe Gamora's relationship with Nebula?

Dysfunctional. And I feel like it must be really painful for Gamora because she really does have love for her sister and she wants her sister to come out good and get out and her sister is like No I am the game, I want the game and I want you to die,' and it's like 'What? I'm one of three girls, I would be devastated if my sisters spoke to me like that.

So where does Nebula end up?

I don't know. She doesn't end up, trust me. There's no end to Nebula, which is a great thing for Karen and i so, but it's not a good thing for Gamora I guess. But i"m sexc Karen will be able to showcase such an amazing role, she really went all-out for it, shaving her [head] she pulled a G.I. Jane there so it was pretty awesome and it really worked.

How about Gamora's relationship with Ronan? Does she have one or is it duplicitous from the start?

We had discussed, James had entertained going like, 'Should I make it a little more? What is the kind of relationship?' But it just felt like it would have been a different movie, it would have gone a little too dark. You can assume for yourself, these are adopted kids of Thanos, taken in the same way but they made different decisions in terms of what they like. I feel like Ronan and Nebula became like the Pit Bull you give a taste of blood for the first time and they're hooked and want more of it and Gamora just wants out.

Is there any love from Gamora for Thanos?

I think the love may come out of fear.

If things go well with this one do you want the Guardians to continue to explore outer space?

Yes. Yes.

No Earth?

Yeah okay, I guess [Laughs]
