Stan Lee's Guardians of the Galaxy 2 Cameo Confirmed

Stan Lee - Guardians of the Galaxy 2

2016 is the year of final appearances for the legendary Stan Lee, the name you see listed as an executive producer on every Marvel movie, and who makes a brief and fun appearance in most of them. Toronto's Fan Expo Canada 2016 next month will mark Stan Lee's final Canadian appearance and in October, Stan the Man will make his final New York Comic-Con appearance as well.

The energetic and iconic comic creator, at 93 years young, may in turn similarly start making his final cameo appearances since he already opts to only do ones that are relatively geographically close to home. And fortunately for writer and director James Gunn, who's a longtime personal fan of Lee, he'll get to work with Stan Lee a little bit on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.

Stan Lee had not one, but two cameos in the first Guardians of the Galaxy. He first appeared talking up a young alien lady as viewed by Rocket Raccoon who was bounty hunting on Xandar, and later appears (sort of) in a glass box inside of The Collector's collection.

Guardians of the Galaxy - Stan Lee Cameos

On Facebook, Gunn shared a behind-the-scenes photo from San Diego Comic-Con 2016 where he ran into Stan Lee at a signing, and reiterated his admiration for the legend. Respond to fan questions about Lee, Gunn revealed that a) he hugs Stan Lee every time they meet and b) Stan Lee will be in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.

The latter comes from a question about how great Stan Lee's cameo will be in the sequel to which Gunn responded with a 'thumbs up' icon. This sequence has likely already been shot but given the variety of roles Stan Lee has made in Marvel Studios movies, it's impossible to guess what it might be at this time.

So, there may not be any Thanos or Infinity Stones in GOTG 2 but we'll get Stan Lee. Excelsior!
