Guardians of the Galaxy 2 Promo Art Unites the Old Gang

Dave Bautista, Zoe Saldana, and Chris Pratt in Guardians of the Galaxy

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 promises to continue showcasing the chemistry between the stars that drove the first movie. The sequel is also going to feature some changes to the dynamics of the Guardians team and explore some more themes of family and unity. Vol. 2 will no doubt feature plenty of good action, humor, and music, but the chemistry of the main group is the franchise’s ultimate driving force.

To capitalize on the popularity of the Guardians of the Galaxy crew, Marvel is expected to send fans a box full of surprise items related to the highly anticipated Vol. 2 as part of the Marvel Collector Corps. Each box contains a unique Funko Pop! figure to go with assorted apparel and memorabilia. The most recent collections featured X-Men and Doctor Strange, but the newest box is expected to highlight the heroes of Guardians of the Galaxy ahead of the sequel’s May release.

Marvel Collector Corps posted a photo to its Facebook page on Thursday of its upcoming April collection, which is dedicated to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. The photo shows the Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, and Rocket in action. The lone subtle difference is that it shows Baby Groot instead of Groot as a nod to the sequel.

“Our April box is Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.! Obviously, right? What do you hope to see in the box?” the post’s caption reads. Fans in the comments asked for items such as earmuffs, gloves, and salt & pepper shakers. The Collector Corps has delivered mystery boxes to fans every other month since April 2015, including one for the original Guardians of the Galaxy in December of that year.

The Marvel Collector Corps is certainly a fun idea for, well, collectors and fans of Marvel merchandise. The element of surprise keeps subscribers locked in and the items inside can be practical or even just good additions to your shelf. With the latest box focused on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, which isn't out yet but scored perfectly in a test screening, the new collection could contain some real surprises.

The Vol. 2 Collector Corps box, however, is going to be a follow-up to what was a polarizing box for the original Guardians of the Galaxy. Besides the usual Funko Pop! figures and comic book, the box contained a scarf and Star-Lord coffee mug as its unique items. It was a collection that was either loved or loathed. But that is the risk that fans take with “mystery box” kinds of collections. Still, Marvel is certainly hoping that the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 collection is more universally liked.
