Rocket Raccoon has just become one of the cutest villains in the Marvel Universe. In Guardians of the Galaxy #14 by Marvel Comics, Doctor Doom swapped minds with members of the superteam after attempting to steal the Sword of Space from Hulkling. When he ends up in the mind of Rocket, a Guardian teammate is quick to point out how adorable he looks when brooding.
The latest iteration of the Guardians of the Galaxy continues to take shape, as multiple teams have assembled as the official protectors of the cosmos. Not only have the Guardians got spiffy new costumes, but they've split into two separate teams with one featuring Rocket, Nova, Star-Lord- and Gamora, with another featuring newer members such as Marvel Boy and Quasar Boy, as well as Drax and Phyla-Vell. As Nova's team investigates an attack on Throneworld II, home of the Kree/Skrull alliance, Doctor Doom tries to steal the king's greatest weapon - Hulkling's Sword of Space.
In Guardians of the Galaxy #14 by Al Ewing, Juan Frigeri, Frederico Blee, and VC's Cory Petit, Doom steals Hulkling's sword but is knocked to the ground by the King of Space. The Guardians prepare to attack Doom when he swaps mind with Teddy, leading the team to go after Doom in Hulkling's body. After tricking Doom to switch back by suggesting he's taken control of Hulking because his own body is weak, Moondragon uses her own telepathic powers to redirect Doom's mind into Rocket Raccoon's. Doom as Rocket is displeased and tells Moondragon that not even "this foolishness" can stop him. Moondragon is convinced Doom could find a way to destroy them as Rocket, but tells him he'd "look just adorable doing it too."
While trying to look as menacing as possible, Doom tells the Guardians a cult has overtaken and infected Ego the Living Planet. Doom suggests the balance in reality has shifted and that he's capable of stopping them. Star-Lord then makes a bold move, telling Doom he will get his body back once in order for helping them stop the pending threat. Peter Quill makes Victor Von Doom (in Rocket Racoon's body) a member of the Guardians of the Galaxy.
Not only does Doctor Doom in Rocket's body make for some seriously hilarious moments throughout the comic, but it actually is a somewhat believable reason to keep Doom around and making him join the Guardians. Plus, Rocket Raccoon can get a chance to live inside Doom's armor for a bit, as his own body is taken by the supervillain. Doom's Rocket Raccoon just became the cutest villain in the Marvel Universe - even if he says his intentions are good. Guardians of the Galaxy #14 is in stores now.
