Spoilers for Guardians of the Galaxy by Marvel ComicsThe Guardians of the Galaxy are returning to the pages of Marvel Comics, but it seems Star-Lord will be forced to rebuild his fractured family of cosmic heroes. At New York Comic-Con 2022, Marvel revealed that a new Guardians of the Galaxy series will debut in 2023. However, the ominous tease for the upcoming comic book shows the team is fractured, as there are major questions about whether they can be rebuilt.

The Guardians of the Galaxy are one of Marvel's most prominent cosmic superteams, as the rag-tag group of heroes, antiheroes, and sometimes villains saw a resurgence in popularity with Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning's 2008 reboot of the classic, obscure team. Following James Gunn's 2014 adaptation of the newest version of the Guardians of the Galaxy team in the MCU, its sequel in 2017, and an upcoming third film in 2023, the Guardians have taken an even more prominent role in the comics. However, in a new series teased last weekend, Star-Lord and the Guardians of the Galaxy will seemingly be rebuilding the team as it fractured across the universe.

At New York Comic-Con 2022, Marvel Comics dropped a mysterious new teaser for the next chapter of the Guardians of the Galaxy. In a single image with the Guardians logo fractured into five pieces, the copy reads, "how do you rebuild a family?" It seems that Star-Lord will have the difficult task of reforming his former family as the Guardians of the Galaxy have become broken in the Marvel Universe. The tagline might be even more literal, as it's also possible Star-Lord will search for his lost son with the Guardians.

The New Guardians of the Galaxy Series Follows Marvel's Excellent Previous Chapter

Guardians of the Galaxy Marvel Comics

The new Guardians of the Galaxy series will have the difficult task of following up on the most recent iteration of the team from Al Ewing and Juann Cabal, which is one of the best comics the superteam has ever been in. The last chapter featured Star-Lord gaining incredible powers, a great cast of characters getting a much-deserved spotlight like Phyla-Vell and Moondragon, queer representation, and featured the Guardians of the Galaxy facing off against some incredibly powerful villains like the God of Olympus.

The newest series will have the tough job of following up Ewing and Cabal's Guardians series. But, with Star-Lord and the rest of the team looking to rebuild their family as it's become broken, the comic has the chance to tell an emotional and fun cosmic story seeing the newest version of superteam adventure across the galaxy. The creative team for Guardians of the Galaxy hasn't been revealed, but the book arrives from Marvel Comics in 2023.
