James Gunn approves of a Guardians of the Galaxy fan-made video providing translation for Teenage Groot's line in Avengers: Infinity War. Ever since the ragtag cosmic heroes debuted in 2014, they've quickly become fan-favorites, appearing in a sequel then eventually joining the rest of the MCU in Avengers: Endgame and its direct prequel. That includes the sentient tree voiced by Vin Diesel who only has one line: "I am Groot."

It's worth noting that in Guardians of the Galaxy, the Adult Groot died after sacrificing himself for the mission and to protect his newfound friends. From one of his remaining branches, a new version of the character grew to become Baby Groot in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and Teenage Groot in Infinity War. While the former version was adorable appropriate for his age at that time, the latter was angsty and couldn't even be bothered with the situation at hand. Instead, he was mostly occupied with his video game.

This was what inspired a fan to create a compilation of some of Teenage Groot's most memorable scenes in the Joe and Anthony Russo film and provide his lines with an English translation. Gunn saw this and said that some of them were very close to what the character was saying, adding that when Diesel is filming his lines, he gets an actual script to get a better understanding of what the hero is saying at a particular moment. Check out the clip below:

While Teenage Groot clearly had an attitude in Infinity War, it's still shocking to think that he was this vulgar, especially when talking to the other Guardians of the Galaxy members. It's hilarious, however, that when he arrived in Wakanda with Thor and Rocket Raccoon and met Steve Rogers, Captain America was so earnest in introducing himself when Teenage Groot didn't even ask for his name. Finally learning what his actual last word was before turning into dust following Thanos' snap was heartbreaking. Among everything in the video, Teenage Groot calling Rocket "Dad" was the only thing officially confirmed by Gunn long before the clip went viral online.

After his death in Infinity War, Teenage Groot is now back in the MCU as is with half of life in the universe thanks to the time heist in Avengers: Endgame. He's expected to appear in Thor: Love and Thunder which is currently filming in Australia before embarking on the cosmic team's own mission in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. The threequel is expected to wrap up the overarching narrative that Gunn started in Guardians of the Galaxy and is scheduled to begin production sometime later this year.
