Gamora and Peter make up one of the MCU's sweetest pairings. While maybe not as iconic as, say, Peggy Carter and Steve Rogers, the two Guardians share a relationship that was well-developed during their time on screen and prevalent enough to make fans emotionally invested in them... just not so strong that it detracted from the group's story or the feel-good tone of the films.

No couple, though, is without its flaws. Like any couple, both real-life and fictional, in any part of the galaxy, the two have had their fair share of lovers' spats that make us question, though not for long, whether they should still be together.

He Should Have Dumped Her: She Tries To Steal The Orb

Maybe he couldn't really have dumped her for this, considering it was their first meeting, but it should have been a red flag that delayed their romance a little longer. Full-force assault courtesy of the deadliest woman in the galaxy hardly seems like the best incentive to start a relationship. She probably would have killed him right then if Rocket and Groot had not appeared.

On the other hand, this Guardians of the Galaxy scene showcased Gamora's talents right off the bat. This moment on the planet Xandar served as a real meet-cute for the couple and would kick start one of the best couples in the MCU.

She Should Have Dumped Him: He Goes Back For His Walkman

After carrying out Rocket's plan to get their group of Guardians out of the Kyln, the team has managed to evade guards and dodge prisoners and have boarded the Milano. Before they can make their escape, though, Quill stops them and heads back into the prison.

Rocket suggests they fly away without him, but Gamora, realizing that Peter had taken the Orb with him, insists that they wait. When Peter returns, they narrowly escape, and he reveals what was important enough to risk all their lives to return to the prison—his Walkman.

He Should Have Dumped Her: She Doesn't Tell Him About The Power Stone

Power Infinity Stone and Orb from Guardians of the Galaxy

Gamora, having been raised by Thanos, is well-versed in the abilities of the Infinity Stones. When she starts her adventures with Peter and the other Guardians with the Orb, which contains the Power Stone, she refuses to let them know just how much power is in Peter's hands during their journey across the galaxy, despite his warning her that they would all need to trust each other if they are to work together.

When they reach Knowhere and meet with the Collector, Carina, Tivan's slave, attempts to take the Stone and, with that one action, triggers an explosion that destroys the whole building. It's then that the group realizes that all but one of them had unwittingly been carrying around a bomb.

She Should Have Dumped Him: He Brags About His Conquests

Over the years, several references are made to Peter's promiscuity prior to meeting Gamora. In fact, after his first mission to obtain the Orb, while escaping the planet Morag, Bereet, the Krylorian with whom he had been in a seemingly casual relationship, reveals herself to be on the ship with him. Peter admits that he forgot she was there.

After their escape from the Kyln to the Milano, Gamora makes a comment about how filthy Peter's ship is. Peter takes the opportunity to allude to just how many nights he had spent achieving the level of filth that she observes, bragging that the ship would look like a Jackson Pollock painting under a black light.

He Should Have Dumped Her: She Insults Him Constantly

From calling him a fool after their first altercation to naming him and the other Guardians "the biggest idiots in the galaxy," Gamora has less kind things to say about the Star-Lord than hurtful ones. Of course, she was raised to be a warrior and to push away people and relationships, so it's understandable that she would make every attempt, especially at the beginning, to avoid making the connection she did with Peter.

It's a good thing that he hardly ever takes the comments to heart, and they even add a comedic tone to otherwise chaotic, action-filled scenes, but it's this kind of thing that makes us wonder how they're still together.

She Should Have Dumped Him: He Chooses Ego Over Her And The Group

In Vol. 2, when the Guardians first encounter Ego, who introduces himself as Peter's father, Gamora encourages Peter to give him a chance. However, she quickly grows suspicious of the god as they spend more time on his planet. When she raises her concerns to Peter, though, he dismisses them, accusing her of being jealous, arguing that he had finally found his family.

Gamora retorts that she thought he had already found his family in their group. Considering a huge part of the Guardians' story is how they became each other's found family, this was an especially egregious mistake on Peter's part.

He Should Have Dumped Her: She Is Taken With Thor

When the team rescues Thor from the wreckage of Thanos' attack on his ship, Drax takes it upon himself to point out how much more handsome and muscular the god of thunder is than Peter. Peter turns to Gamora to defend him but finds her occupied with Thor's arm muscles, which she compares to ropes of Cotati metal fibers.

When Thor finds out that Thanos is Gamora's father, he empathizes with her, saying families can be tough, and she doesn't back away when he lets his hand linger on her shoulder, even though it clearly makes Peter uncomfortable.

She Should Have Dumped Him: He Is Jealous Of Thor

Thor and Star-Lord face up in Avengers Infinity War

Perhaps even more inappropriate, though, was when Peter, seeing the exchange between Thor and Gamora, made a complete fool of himself standing in between them. He becomes defensive, even making his voice deeper to match Thor's, which Rocket and Drax both comment on.

The whole interaction makes for a hilarious moment, nothing short of classic Guardians humor, but the behavior on Peter's part was ridiculous. He and Gamora had been involved for a while at that point, and, while it's understandable that he would feel threatened by a man like Thor, he should have trusted her more than he appeared to.

He Should Have Dumped Her: She Makes Him Promise To Kill Her

The Guardians' Infinity War story quickly turns somber when Gamora realizes that the only thing standing between Thanos and the Soul Stone, the only one of the Infinity Stones whose location no one knows, is herself. She tells Peter that she knows something Thanos doesn't, which is later revealed to be the location of the Soul Stone. She makes him swear on his mother that, if Thanos were to capture her, he would kill her.

Although it was a necessary move that she thought would keep the universe safe, it was an unfair and impossible task to place in the hands of the person who loved her.

As she predicted, Thanos does eventually capture Gamora when they reach the planet Knowhere. After Peter gets on her case about not approaching from the direction he told her to and ending up in Thanos' captivity, she asks that Peter go through with his promise to kill her.

Again, it was an impossible position that Peter was put in, so we'll cut him some slack for hesitating, but, in the time it took him to decide to aim his gun at her and pull the trigger, Thanos uses the Reality Stone to turn the blast into bubbles, which float away and disappear as quickly as he and Gamora do.
