Audiences mourned when Thanos killed his step-daughter Gamora in Avengers: Infinity War by throwing her off a cliff to acquire the Soul Stone. By Avengers: Endgame, however, Gamora returned… sort of. Thanks to the Avengers’ time travel mission, a past version of Gamora makes it to the present, allowing her to continue living her life. Since this Gamora never joined the Guardians of the Galaxy, however, she no longer has any feelings for them – including her boyfriend Peter Quill/Star-Lord.

This may, however, be a way of setting up Gamora for an all-new love interest, one she once shared very close ties in the comic books. While this may be upsetting to Peter Quill/Gamora fans, Gamora may wind up falling in love with… Adam Warlock.

Who? While he hasn’t actually shown his face in the MCU yet, Adam Warlock is a major character in Marvel Comics and played a major role in the original comic book version of The Infinity Gauntlet. Originally an artificial being created by corrupt human scientists, Adam (then called “Him”) escaped the influence of his creators and journeyed to the stars to find meaning for his existence. He acquired great power and even became the bearer of the Soul Stone (called the “Soul Gem” in the comics).

Eventually, Adam met Gamora (who was working as Thanos’ assassin at the time) and formed a close relationship with her. When Gamora turned against Thanos and he mortally wounded her, Adam saved Gamora by absorbing her soul into his Soul Gem where they lived together for many years very happily. Eventually, however, Thanos created the Infinity Gauntlet and Adam decided to restore Gamora and himself back to life in new bodies – although Gamora ended up dying almost immediately when Thanos snapped away half the universe’s population.

Fortunately, Adam was able to organize the universe’s heroes against Thanos and the effects of the Snap were reversed, bringing Gamora back. Adam became the new wielder of the Infinity Gauntlet and decided to divide the gems – giving Gamora the Time Gem (even though she had no idea how to use it). Over time, Gamora developed romantic feelings for Adam, although it took him some time to respond. The two ended up living together in another pocket dimension and raised the cosmic being Atleza as her foster parents.

Peter and Gamora hold hands in Guardians of the galaxy vol. 2

So, how could Adam Warlock enter the MCU? Well, technically Adam has already made an appearance. In one of the multiple end-credits scenes in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, the gold-skinned Sovereign ruler reveals a cocoon containing a being intended to be the next step in their race’s evolution – whom she decides to name “Adam.” While Adam didn’t emerge in time to make an appearance in Avengers: Infinity War or Endgame, he may still play a big part in the future of the MCU, and in her current state, Gamora could very well share his story.

After all, without her ties to the Guardians of the Galaxy, Gamora is free to pursue other relationships – and connecting with what could be the MCU’s next big hero could be in the cards for her. Of course, Star-Lord isn’t one to just let someone like Gamora go, so an Adam Warlock/Gamora/Star-Lord love triangle might be one of the major plot points in future Guardians of the Galaxy movies.
