To celebrate the release of a new single from Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy’s Star-Lord band, developer Eidos Montréal debuted an animated music video and full game tracklist. Square Enix and its Montréal team teased the Guardians of the Galaxy game's 80s sound months ago, presenting quite the sonic contrast to the 70s flair that pervades the movie franchise.

As such, the soundtrack will come packed with tracks from the 80s. The studio and publisher previously confirmed music from Iron Maiden, Pat Benatar, Twisted Sister, Def Leppard, and more. It's quite the impressive lineup, but that's not all the GOTG adventure has tucked up its sleeve. Over half a dozen songs from a fake rock band were announced several months ago as well, the band in question being Peter Quill's very own Star-Lord band. In true Guardians of the Galaxy fashion, the fictitious group's album, Space Riders, has even spawned music videos.

More details about the GOTG game's soundtrack have emerged, thanks to Eidos Montréal's reveal of the complete tracklist. Accompanying this particular bit of news is the second single from Star-Lord's Space Riders album, "Zero to Hero," which now boasts an animated music video inspired by 80s cartoons. Yet another video features a vintage VHS recording from one of the band's live "Zero to Hero" performances. See both the music video and live show in the footage linked below:

In addition to Star-Lord music, the adventure title's full soundtrack contains a total of 30 licensed songs from iconic musicians such as Billy Idol, BLONDIE, and Mötley Crüe. Each one is listed as follows:

Blondie - "Call Me"

Blue Oyster Cult - "Don't Fear The Reaper"

Bobby McFerrin - "Don't Worry Be Happy"

Hot Chocolate - "Every 1's A Winner"

Wang Chung - "Everybody Have Fun Tonight"

Tears For Fears - "Everybody Wants To Rule The World"

New Kids on the Block - "Hangin' Tough"

Pat Benatar - "Hit Me With Your Best Shot"

Bonnie Tyler - "Holding Out for a Hero"

Flock of Seagulls - "I Ran"

Culture Club - "I'll Tumble 4 Ya"

Mötley Crüe - "Kickstart My Heart"

Simple Minds - "Love Song"

Wham! - "Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go"

Twisted Sister - "We're Not Gonna Take It"

Billy Idol - "White Wedding"

That original and licensed music features so prominently in the marketing strategy for Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy seems perfectly fitting. And the quality of the soundtrack suggests music will play an even more important role in the game. Now the question is how well Eidos Montréal managed to interject these tracks into the core experience.

After years of rumors and speculation, Square Enix unveiled Guardians of the Galaxy during its E3 2021 press conference this summer. The reveal came complete with a lengthy gameplay walkthrough and a whole host of details, all outlining a choice-driven experience bolstered by a Mass Effect-like combat system.
