Square Enix revealed its new Guardians of the Galaxy game at E3 which is being developed by Eidos. This is Square Enix's second game in the Marvel universe and is a rather surprising direction for a Guardians of the Galaxy game, but it still pulls heavily from both the films and the comics while still doing plenty new as a video game.

There have been plenty of rumors surrounding a Guardians of the Galaxy game for years, but this is the first time any actual details have been given for the game. It looks like a dramatic departure from the direction of Marvel's Avengers, which failed to really resonate with fans, and it's probably for the better as the gameplay shown looks absolutely fantastic.

Square Enix revealed Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy at E3 2021 and it looks like a true space adventure game starring Marvels' favorite misfits. It looks like it's heavily inspired by Mass Effect with branching dialogue, choices, and the ability to command the team as Star-Lord. As an added surprise, the game releases on October 26, 2021, for last-gen and current-gen consoles. The Guardians of the Galaxy game was leaked recently, but it's hard to say that anyone could've expected it to resemble anything like fans saw during the showcase.

Guardians of the Galaxy are one of the most beloved group of characters in the Marvel universe, so it's good to see them getting the proper treatment in video games. It's unfortunate how Marvel's Avengers turned out, but it seems like it was a one-off pitfall for the publisher and this game will set a much better impression for the future of Marvel games. Given the quality of Marvel's Spider-Man, it looks like Eidos will give the Guardians the same level of care to the heroes.

Superhero fans have been burnt with games before, but it looks like Guardians of the Galaxy will deliver a unique, fun experience that will deliver the fantasy of being Marvel's lovable band of raunchy heroes. After years of Guardians of the Galaxy rumors, it looks like it's going to be worth the wait. The game is clearly separated from the films, so don't expect any tie-ins with the next film, but perhaps familiar characters like Thanos or Nebula will appear at some point. As of right now, the only characters that are carrying over from the films just the standard group of heroes and Mantis.
