The Eternals poster is recreated with the Guardians of the Galaxy in a new Marvel fan-art. After side-stepping its movie branch and focusing on its budding small screen brand, the MCU is restarting its marketing for its upcoming blockbusters for 2021. That includes Chloe Zhao's Eternals which will introduce a brand new superhero team in the universe who, apparently, has been in existence for centuries.

Created by the Celestials, the Eternals are essentially immortal powerful beings who have subtly shaped the Earth. They have never revealed themselves throughout this time period, even as the universe faced various threats such as Thanos successfully wiping out half of life in Avengers: Infinity War. Eternals will be the first time Marvel Studios is debuting a new superhero team since James Gunn introduced the Guardians of the Galaxy in 2014. Given this, the comparisons are inevitable between the two groups as seen in this new illustration.

Digital artist samuel_cheve imagined what it would be like if the Guardians of the Galaxy got the same one-sheet treatment as the Eternals' latest poster. Instead of the immortals' ship, the fan-art features the cosmic rag-tag gang's Benatar which had been used by the team in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and Infinity War. It was also useful in Avengers: Endgame's time heist. Check out the image below:

Eternals' poster has quickly become a fan-favorite for a couple of reasons. Firstly, it's stunning in its simplicity. Secondly, it doesn't look like a typical MCU one-sheet. Over the years, the franchise has received criticism for posters that can arguably be boring and repetitive. The format is almost always the same with a collection of all the characters mashed together while the villain looms over. There are several exceptions to this, but for the most part, this was the case. Seeing something so aesthetically different from Marvel Studios through Eternals is a welcome change and is already being taken as an indication that Zhao's upcoming blockbuster will nothing like the usual fare from the franchise.

While the Eternals and the Guardians of the Galaxy have very different origins stories, the introduction of this new superhero team is evoking memories of when the rag-tag group was first introduced. Both are deemed obscure Marvel characters with very little name recognition outside of comic book readers. They're also opening up an entirely different pocket of the universe which frequently puts the spotlight on the Avengers. Despite the lack of awareness from the general public, the MCU has done a great job endearing the Guardians of the Galaxy to their fans and expect that once this new squad arrives via Eternals, they, too, will eventually be household names.
