Warning! Spoilers ahead for Guardians of the Galaxy #15

In the latest issue of Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy, two major villains were brought together to unleash something truly terrible upon the cosmos. While the Guardians are still pretty fresh in their new positions as the "Avengers of Space", serving as the Galactic Council's officially sanctioned heroes, they've already had to deal with quite a lot. Not only were they attacked by Doctor Doom, but he's now joined their ranks to stave off the dark threat he fears is on the horizon. Now, it looks as though Doom's concerns have been proven right in the latest book.

In prior issues of Guardians of the Galaxy from Al Ewing and Juan Frigeri, the new Age of Space has begun and the galactic status quo has been changing in some pretty big ways. Not only have the Guardians been chosen by the Galactic Council to be their new heroes in the absence of the Nova Corps, but the X-Men and their space program SWORD having been making major waves as well. They've terraformed Mars to serve as a mutant planet and new capital world for the solar system, while also offering a new and valuable metal as the basis for a new galactic economy. As if that wasn't enough, Doctor Doom has reluctantly joined the Guardians, having become aware of a dark new threat that's preparing to strike.

The Guardians have also been monitoring the return of Ego the Living Planet, who's been hosting an ancient magic fire cult of Skrulls, having positioned himself in space to allow them to cast a dark and mysterious spell. Now, Guardians of the Galaxy #15 has seen Ego encased in a black shell while the rest of the galaxy's forces anxiously wait in orbit to see what hatches. Unfortunately for the Marvel universe, the end of the issue sees the Ego egg finally hatching and a dark new power bursting forth, belonging to none other than the dreaded Dormmamu.

Guardians-Galaxy-15-Dormammu

Dormammu's arrival to the cosmos has to be what Doctor Doom sensed and feared. This also seems to be the confirmation that Dormamu is in fact the teased major foe the Guardians will be facing in The Last Annihilation, a new galactic event that's about to begin from Marvel Comics. With everything seemingly good that's been changing for the galaxy as of late, it makes sense that new and darker forces would rise to meet it, though seeing Dormamu the Living Planet is quite the surprise.

It's going to be interesting to see how Dormammu's latest attack on the Marvel Universe will play out, especially considering the fact this his son Doyle is currently a student at the Strange Academy. Does Doyle know that his dad just hatched out of a living planet? In any case, The Last Annhilation will no doubt prove to be one of the biggest threats the Guardians of the Galaxy have ever faced, especially now that it's confirmed who they're facing.
